Vital Red Light : LED Light Therapy Device Review + 10% Off Discount Code!

by InvisiblyMe

Vital Red Light is a provider of light therapy devices and I was thrilled when I was asked if I’d try one out so I could share my opinion and feedback here.

Red light therapy has become an increasingly popular buzz term that’s often marketed for its range of potential benefits, including the likes of osteoarthritis pain, inflammation, signs of skin ageing, mental health, hair growth, fibromyalgia, and acne. Advancements in technology have brought about more convenient, more powerful devices that can be used at home, made by brands like Vital Red Light.

About The Brand : Vital Red Light

The idea originated in 2016, when Jake Kreuz developed Lyme disease and struggled with its effects. Conventional treatments failed to do enough, and while light therapy (photobiomodulation) by his doctor did help, the costs added up.

Discovering a gap in the market for red light devices for everyday consumers and patients to use themselves at home, Jake cultivated a group of experts to find a solution. Vital Red Light was born.

The brand started selling online in 2019. From handheld devices and table top options, to floor standing light bars, customers can buy their own with a one-off cost to use for years.

They’ve since been featured by some impressive media brands, including Glamour and Forbes.

Vital Red Light is US-based but ships internationally. At the time of writing, delivery is free and they also offer a 30 day trial.

Why Choose A Professional Option with Vital Red Light

When it comes to our health and our skin, it’s important to use products that are robustly tested and considered as safe as possible, while still being effective. The market for light therapy products is expanding, primarily with the influx of LED face masks hitting shelves and online retailers. Some will be great quality and worth the money, but as with anything, many will not as little known brands jump on the bandwagon.

To be effective and trigger the mitochondrial reaction required, a red light therapy device needs specific wavelengths. It’s these clinically proven wavelengths that are what provide the potential benefits and you need to trust that the device is delivering those.

The Vital Red Light Range

At the time of writing, Vital Red Light offers a robust selection of devices for home use. These include the handheld and rechargeable Vital Charge, the desktop Vital Pro 1.0, and the Vital Elite 1.0 tall bar. They’ve also introduced the Vital Pro 2.0 and Elite 2.0, upgrading the power and wavelength options offered.

Moving up the scale are their commercial productions, like the Vital Premier and Ultimate, much larger light bars on a wheeled base, and the Vital Bed.

Vital Red Light Website

I found the website to be pleasant to mooch around, with user-friendly navigation and a well-rounded, consumer-focused approach. All the information I’d expected to find was made available in terms of ordering, delivery, warranty and product specs.

The brand incorporates a mix of educational posts and blog posts, helping you understand how the therapy works and how it might be of benefit to you. What’s also helpful is a section for verified user reviews, which I always like to see before buying new products or a using a new website.

The process of browsing and ordering is very straightforward. Each product has ample images, descriptions and specification details to help you make an informed decision on what to buy. After ordering, I receive communication regarding dispatch, tracking and delivery confirmation, so it felt smooth and gave me some peace of mind.

What Is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy (RLT) uses two wavelengths – near infrared (nIR) at 850nm and red light at 660nm. These wavelengths are also emitted by the sun, but while exposure to the sun is necessary and beneficial for human life, such as enabling the body’s production of Vitamin D, it comes with known risks of burning, skin ageing, sight damage and potential increased risk of skin cancer due to UV rays.

RLT isolates and directs just the beneficial wavelengths to your body, avoiding those potential UV-related risks.

There’s a real biological mechanism behind exposing yourself to red light. When directed at your skin, red light stimulates the mitochondria, the parts inside your cells that create chemical energy. The increased mitochrondrial activity helps boost their functional performance.

What Are The Benefits of Red Light Therapy?

The potential benefits of LED light therapy are numerous and varied, particularly thanks to the enhanced cellular energy that boosts cell regeneration and blood flow. These may include the likes of :

  • Improves muscle recovery and athletic performance.
  • Boosts circulation, which in turn aids oxygen and nutrient delivery around the body. This can support weight loss, general health, physical healing and energy levels.
  • Benefits to fibromyalgia symptoms, including fatigue and cognitive function.
  • Supports hair growth.
  • Reduces anxiety and stress, and improves sleep quality.
  • Stimulates the production of nitric oxide, which can reduce inflammation and help with pain relief, including osteoarthritis pain.
  • Perks up the production of elastin and collagen to reduce the appearance of fine lines on the face while reducing skin inflammation, making it useful for conditions like acne, acne scarring, and psoriasis.
  • Got pets? Findings suggest RLT can help speed up recovery after surgery, reduce pain from the likes of arthritis, and benefit wounds and other skin conditions.

Vital Red Light Pro 1.0 Review :

What Is It?

The Vital Red Light Pro 1.0 (original) is a mid-sized device with a stand designed for versatility and ease of use, so you can stand, sit or lie down for your treatment, placing the device on a worktop, chair or the floor. You can use it whenever and wherever you wish, whether for your face or parts of your body. All you need is a plug socket.

Made with 70 medical grade 5W LEDs for flicker-free use, the Pro 1.0 delivers both the red (630nm & 660nm) and NiR (830nm & 850nm) wavelengths required, alongside two quiet but speedy fans for cooling the device. The lifespan is stated to be up to a generous 50,000 hours.

For peace of mind, the brand provides 3 year warranty on devices. Products are also independently tested by a third party.

How To Use

Ensure your skin is clean and dry. If you’re using this for your face, such as to target signs of ageing, pigmentation, acne, etc, use the light and then apply serum/moisturiser afterwards.

Being near the device is really all you need to do for the duration of your session. A single session can be whatever you want it to be, though 10 minutes seems the most popular and practical option. The device timer can be used to auto-shutoff at that point.

The side of the Vital Red Light device.

You can then turn it back on to do another session or move onto other areas if you wish. The brand recommends daily use, with 2 to 3 times a day potentially being being most effective in some cases. It’s consistency with treatments that’s so important, which is why I personally want something that’s easy and quick to use, as I’ve found this to be. Regular 10 minute sessions are better for supporting cellular regeneration and collagen formation than longer but sporadic sessions.

When sitting in front of the device, don’t stare into the LEDs. When using the NiR mode, it’s important to wear eye protection, which the brand provides.

My Thoughts On The Pro 1.0

If you’re looking for a compact device that doesn’t take up much space but can still be used for larger areas of your body, this fits the bill nicely.

Unboxing :

This arrived well packaged, which is important when you’re shipping something like this, especially internationally. I’m glad to say it arrived in perfect condition. In the box you get :

  • The device itself with attached stand
  • Eye protection glasses
  • Power cable with US plug end
  • Glossy user manual

If you live anywhere but the States, you’ll need a plug adapter (ie. a US to UK adapter). These can usually be picked up easily enough in stores and of course very easily online. I picked up an adapter on Amazon.

Lookin’ Good :

First impressions of this kit are excellent. Everything seems to be thoughtfully designed and put together, from the packaging and branding, to the thick glossy user book.

The device itself is a generous size and pretty hefty, more so than I’d expected. It gives quality vibes straight away as a more hardcore, professional piece of tech.

Putting it on a small chest of drawers in my room, this looks modern and neater than I thought. The only real sense of bulkiness comes from the power cable, which I’ve mostly hidden behind the unit and drawers anyway.

Set Up :

There device is already affixed to the stand so there’s nothing you need to do beyond pull the stand out and up. It does require a bit of strength to pull it, but I see that as a good thing because it stays in place where I set it really well.

Then it’s just a case of putting it where you want it and I was glad to see the cable isn’t too short. You might want this on a desktop, bedside table, chair, on the floor, wherever suits you and there’s a plug socket nearby. It has some weight to it but it’s still easy enough to move if you want to change positioning for use on different body areas, like going from a desktop for your face, to the floor for your body.

All that’s left it turning it on.

How To Use :

On the back of the device you’ll find two sturdy flip witches : Red light and NIR (near infrared) light. This keeps things simple and straightforward and also reduces the chance of accidental touch button presses. You can either use red light alone, or flip both switches to initiate NIR.

On the side is a 10 minute timer, which can be used or turned off. I personally use this all the time because single 10 minute sessions are more manageable.

Sit, stand or lie down by the light, and if you’re facing it don’t forget to pop the protective glasses on. Then just relax for the duration of your session.

In Use : My Thoughts

My first thought when I turned this on for the first time was that it’s super bright. More so than I’d expected, so I’m really glad about that. It’s also not silent as you can hear the hum and the power behind the device. It doesn’t feel like I’m sitting in front of some pointless little LED lights while someone’s laughing their socks off at my naiveté. It feels more like a professional treatment that could actually do something beneficial.

One area I wanted to focus on was my face, and it’s a bit odd at first if you’re a newbie to a device like this as I am. I quickly got used to the brightness of the lights even with my eyes shut and glasses on. I’ve also tried it with sun bed-style goggles, which block out a little bit more light than the glasses alone. When the session has finished everything looks cool and blue-hued for a minute or so before returning to normal. Thankfully I’ve had no issues from the light after use, but I wouldn’t use this when I’m particularly symptomatic with light sensitivity or during a cluster headache attack.

One thing I found difficult oddly enough was just sitting there and not doing anything else. It’s forcing me to take a breather and not multitask, and that can only be a good thing. This is partly because the brightness and the red glow it casts makes doing other things while it’s on, like using a laptop, rather difficult, especially if you’re directing the LEDs at your face. It’s important though to note that this isn’t a negative on the Pro 1.0, this is just the inherent nature of a red light device.

In terms of results, this of course is going to vary as everyone’s experience will be unique. It’s not a miracle cure for wrinkles or joint pain or anything else, so it’s important to moderate your expectations. It takes time and patience with use over weeks and months gradually making changes your body’s cells. It’s early days for me yet but I’m enjoying using it and I’ve become more confident with how and when to use it in a way that suits me.

Any Downsides? The Pro 1.0 vs 2.0

My only downsides are more limitations. The Pro 1.0 only provides two wavelengths of red and NiR, but that’s fine for me as that’s what I’m looking for. The other limitation is lack of a remote control. Having to flip the manual switches at the back of the device and then get in position isn’t quite as convenient, but again, I don’t see it as a downside because it doesn’t impact my use of this, it’s only a convenience factor. Once you remember which switch is which, you don’t need to see behind the device anyway.

Interestingly, the brand has remedied both limitations with the Pro 2.0, which provides nine wavelengths and features a touchscreen on the side as well as an app to customise use.

The newer 2.0 version is understandably more expensive so it depends on what you’re looking for and what your budget is. For me, the Pro 1.0 is more than adequate and I can live without the extra features. If money were no option or you can swing the slightly extra cost, having the added wavelengths, app and touchscreen are pretty neat upgrades to have.

Is The Device & Red Light Therapy Worth Trying?

Do I think this device is worth trying? Absolutely. The science backs it up enough for me to say it’s worth giving red light therapy a shot, and the brand’s burgeoning success paired with the quality of their products is enough for me to say their devices are a great option if you’re looking to purchase.

My Tips

From my use so far, I’d say it’s important to think about what you want to use this for and where you can put it for convenience; you don’t want to be discouraged by impracticality because it’s committing to regular use that’s important for results. Of course you might be fine moving this around regularly, and you might have the time to relax without needing to multitask, in which case this may not really apply.

You might be better with spontaneous use because your schedule is busy or your health is too unpredictable, or you might be better building this into your routines, especially if sticking to good habits is a challenge.

For instance, you could do a 10 minute session : while doing morning stretches, for a lunch-time screen break, while doing an afternoon meditation, for taking quite self-care time out in the evening. In time, you’ll be able to find what works best for you.

The Vital Red Light turned on without NIR, so there's not so much red glow in the room. My hand is in front of it.

My Overall Verdict

I really like the Vital Red Light brand’s vibe overall and I think their professional, well-rounded approach is evident across the board. It doesn’t feel like a product range for the sake of it, either. it feels like a consumer-centred vision where they’ve worked to perfect and incorporate the science and the user experience. They help to educate us as buyers and users, and I appreciate the support throughout the process, from considering a device to actually buying it and using it.

As for the device itself, I’m genuinely impressed. It’s powerful, it’s bright and it’s designed for high efficiency. It’s tailored to modern living and straightforward use, whether you’re new to red light therapy or a committed user.

Thank you for your Vital Red Light review, Caz. I’ve seen ads for different red lights in TV commercials and was curious about them. You’ve answered all my questions. The Vital Red Light company should be very pleased with your thorough overview of their product. 🙂
