Light Up Your Life : GlobaLink Lights Review

by InvisiblyMe
A photo taken of the large green leaf bush in the garden in the evening. It's still somewhat light outside. The GlobaLink lights have been strung around the plant and lit up. Underneath is the title, along with some yellow star-shapes for decoration: GlobaLink Lights Review.

I was thrilled when the GlobaLink team got in touch and asked if I wanted to review one of their products. When living with chronic illness, it’s the small, simple joys that can make the most difference, so I went for the GlobaLink Outdoor Lights to add a bit of colour and illumination to life. Aside from fairy lights on the Christmas tree, I’ve never used light strings indoors or outdoors before, but I always love seeing photos of gardens and bedrooms adorned with them.

Spoiler Alert : The lights have been fantastic and I can seem them being ideal for regular use or special occasions. For those people more housebound, and for those wanting to enjoy the time at home during the pandemic, such lights can also be a great way make things a bit more special.

About The Brand

I hadn’t heard of GlobaLink before they got in touch with me. I couldn’t find anything on the brand when doing research for this article but I discovered they’re restricted to an Amazon presence. You can find the GlobaLink store and all the products they sell on Amazon (UK & US).

GlobaLink sell a range of different things, including the likes of electronics (chargers and computer accessories), cables, in-car phone holders, home products (like projection alama clocks and wireless weather stations), and a varied range of LED lights for indoor and outdoor use.

Customer Service

“If you’re not 100% satisfied, our outdoor lights come with a money-back guarantee.”

In my rather limited dealings with the brand, I’ve found them to be friendly and helpful. They say they’ll “stand behind you” if you have any issues, so just drop them a message if you have questions or problems with the product.

Lights On : About The Product

GlobaLink String Lights For Indoor & Outdoor Use

These lights are designed with the outdoors in mind, but they’re also suitable for indoor use. The light string comes in two sizes: 11.7m and 17.7m. I received the 11.7m standard lights.

Here’s a look at their key points:

  • Energy Class Rating A+++
  • CE RoHS approved
  • 220 volts / 3W
  • 30 bulbs on the string, each with 5 LED lights inside
  • 30cm spacing between bulbs
  • Non-dimmable
  • Warm white
  • Plug in
  • P65 waterproof with UL certification

To me, this all looks and sounds pretty good. It’s reassuring on both the safety side of things and the quality.

Unboxing

The GlobaLink box was packed inside a larger Amazon box as you’d expect. Inside the GlobaLink box, you’ll notice that each bulb is packed around pearl cotton in order to minimise potential damage during transportation and delivery. I’m pleased to report everything arrived in excellent condition.

Inside The Box

  • String of lights
  • 3 spare bulbs (Replacement bulbs also are also available to purchase – https://amzn.to/3gvxVQ6)
  • Brief informational booklet

Safe & Eco Friendly

These having a very appealing A+++ energy rating. They’re plug in lights as opposed to solar, so you’ll need an electrical socket nearby.

Electric lights have some benefits over solar, particularly when you live in the UK and don’t get that much sun. You can use them year-round and get full brightness, but they’re also more eco friendly than you might imagine. They use “3V/1A extremely low voltage output power”, so they should also be safer to use without getting too hot.

As per GlobaLink, this set of LED lights typically uses up to 90% less energy and lasts far longer than the lights of tungsten or halogen lights. The lifespan is estimated at more than 30,000 hours. They also note the 3W low voltage means they won’t get too hot, which is safer for both adults and children who might touch the bulbs.

A collage of two photos showing one of the GlobaLink bulbs, which is a round bulb with wires and LED lights inside. On the left, I'm holding it above the grass and it's turned off. To the right is the bulb in the tree lit up.

Set Up

The lights are pretty much good to go straight out of the box. The brand have made set-up much easier with a clip on the side of each bulb to make hanging them more convenient. For use outside, these could be clipped to trees, under tents, bushes, on sticks in the ground to light a pathway, under umbrellas, and so on.

The lights aren’t smart and wifi enabled so you can’t use them with app, and neither can you connect two sets of lights together. There is the option for a longer string or you can use two separately if desired.

They have a 3M power cord length, which is reasonable enough to get them plugged in and set up. If you find the cable isn’t long enough, you should be able to use a regular extension lead, but keep in mind your extension cable would need to be waterproof if you wanted it outside in the rain.

Outdoor Use

These are IP65 waterproof with UL certification, making them commercial grade and designed to be safe and effective even in heavy rain or harsh temperatures both hot and cold.

The wire is “heavy-duty commercial grade” and there’s an 20AWG internal wire core to prevent overheating during long periods of use. The lights use “sealed all-weather sockets” to prevent any damage. There’s also an internal fuse for another level of safety while using.

These can be for all year-round use or special occasions. They needn’t even be for in your home, they could be ideal for tents, weddings, picnics or other outdoor events. String them around your house, between trees, over gazebos. The options are endless as long as you have something drape or clip them to, and a plug socket.

I tried these out by simply looping them through the large tree bush thingybobby in the garden. An extension cable was required as the cable wasn’t long enough to reach the electrical socket, and I never imagined it would be. I don’t consider that to really be an issue as I had a spare extension to hand. Electric lights aren’t highly practical when at home and you need to thread them through an open window or leave the patio door ajar to get the cable through. You also have to keep in mind the weather; whether the lights may be waterproof, your extension cable may not be. I still don’t like the idea of a bare plug exposed to the elements when not in use, either.

That said, these give off a beautiful glowing light that’s warm, eye-catching and really very stunning. These exceeded my expectations, though sadly the photos just don’t do the end result justice. You’ll get light whenever and wherever you want without relying on sunshine for solar power, and it’ll be full light that won’t dim and fade. As promised, the lights didn’t get too warm and I noticed no problems with the bulbs, cable or anything else.

Indoor Use

The bulbs are bigger than your standard fairy lights, but they can still look great indoors and make a statement. I think that the hollow style bulb with several LEDs inside provide an almost vintage chic effect well suited to most decor styles, from homely to super contemporary. Fans of Hygge home design should also find these to add a warming, comforting touch inside the home.

I tried these in my bedroom, dangling them over the fireplace to give them a test run and get some photos. I secured two parts of the cable in place with some sellotape, which is barely noticeable with the lights odd. The length of cable here was ideal for reaching a plug and space cable/bulbs could be easily tucked away if not in use.

I thought I’d prefer fairy lights and imagined I’d find these to be too bulky, but they actually look incredible. They give far more light than I’d anticipated, too. These are ideal for mood lighting and give enough brightness that I could probably doze off while snuggled up watching the TV, or read a book without making an impending migraine worse with the full lights on.

A close-up photo of the black fireplace in my room. On top are three decorations and the string of GlobaLink lights around them and down the side of the fireplace. It's dark and the GlobaLink lights are in, casting a golden glow.

Replacement Bulbs

3 spare bulbs come in the box. You can also order a set of replacements on Amazon if required, which come in a box of 4. The good thing here is that the bulbs operate in parallel and independently of one another; if one dies or gets damaged, it won’t affect any other bulbs and you can just swap out the defective one.

Light Up Your Life

I’ve been really pleased with these lights, both in terms of the quality and the pretty end result. They’re easy enough to set up, the clips are helpful for attaching the bulbs if needs be, they’re waterproof and durable, the cable and bulb attachments are sturdy, and the lights look beautiful lit up.

I’m still not entirely keen on electric lights for outdoor use. I don’t have a waterproof extension lead and even if I did, I wouldn’t feel comfortable having these on and the electrics left exposed to the elements. If the weather’s good, it wouldn’t be a problem. If you want ones to keep up all of the time, I’d be more inclined to go solar, but then of course they may only function at certain times in the year when you’ve had enough sunshine. The are pros and cons to both options.

Personally I’ll be using these indoors for the majority of the time, but they’ll be used outside for odd occasions to light up the seating area. They really do make a dusky afternoon or dark evening feel particularly special, and I was surprised at just how much light they provide. I wasn’t expecting the end result to be as jaw-dropping as it was in both indoor and outdoor settings so they are definitely a keeper.

I’d like to hope they’ll be reliable and long-lasting to make them a good investment, and I think the price feels worth it, especially when compared to lights that don’t give you as much cable length, eco-friendly properties or light output.

All in all, if you’re after electric lights to bring a little light into your life without breaking the bank, then these would get a thumbs up from me. These are pretty versatile lights, equally suited to home use as they are to special occasions outside of the home. They’re good quality, eco-friendly, safe, and look incredibly beautiful indoors and outdoors.

It’s the small things that can matter so much, which I’ve learned in earnest since living with chronic illness and pain. These make even a dreary, difficult day feel special.

They look really nice and like you, when I seen the size of the bulb, I thought too bulky for indoors. But they look really good. ????

Glad you like them too, Liz. I thought too bulky for indoors and yet they worked really, really well. I’d actually prefer them over fairy lights now for the increased glow if you want to only use those in the room and still be able to read. I hope you have a restful weekend ???? xx

The lights are beautiful! I think I’ll check them out as I could use some pretty lights in my sunroom.

They really are very pretty, I was a little surprised by how good they looked to be honest! I think these would be beautiful in a room with more glass. I just thought of our old conservatory/sun room, wish we still had one of those. I hope you get plenty of time to enjoy your sunroom this weekend lovely ???? xx

I don’t know about indoors, but outdoors would be fabulous. Great review.

I was pleasantly surprised by just how beautiful they were indoors, but they are designed primarily for outdoor use given the bigger bulbs and waterproofing. I’m glad you liked the review Sandee – have a great weekend! x

I’m full of these sorts of reviews – the things you didn’t know you needed ???? I agree though, these would look lovely on a patio or deck. They’re designed for outdoors primarily but I thought I’d show them off inside because they’re surprisingly good indoors, and not everyone has an outdoor space or somewhere to string lights. I’m glad you like the review, Terri. Thanks for reading! ???? xx

What a comprehensive review! I agree with you about the outside element but they do sound fab. I love twinkling fairy lights. So pretty. Thank you for sharing.

Twinkling lights are so sweet and uplifting to look at, aren’t they? It’s amazing what a difference they can make to a space, indoor or outdoor, and to our mood, too. Glad you liked the review. Thanks, Molly! ???? x

Sounds like a huge improvement over the old incandescent “one light goes out they all go out” style of string lights!

Chaplin: “Next up: Dada explains how back in HIS day, he had to walk to school in the snow, uphill, both ways, and do his homework by the light of kerosene lamps.”
Charlee: “Kerosene lamps? He WISHES he had kerosene lamps back in the day! He had to do his homework by candlelight!”
Lulu: “How many years old do you two think Dada is, exactly?”
Charlee: “I don’t know. About a thousand, I guess.”

Glad you like the look of them too! I bet the lights you have are lovely to have at Christmas. We have solar lights that are on stakes to go in the grass but they’re no good over winter with not enough sunlight, so rather pointless ???? I’m really liking the idea of the GlobaLink ones for the summer nights hopefully coming up soon. x

First off, no one writes better reviews than you do. Seriously, you are amazing. Secondly, these lights are freaking amazing, Caz! WOW, how beautiful! I am so thankful you got to receive these. You’re right, it is the simple pleasures in life that matter the most.

The large bush you strung these lights on really pops with these lights adorning them but I get what you’re saying about having the extension cord exposed to the elements. It can be an uncomfortable feeling; wondering if you’re at risk because of electric mixing with water. Yikes. Still though – as you said, these are perfect for those special occasions outdoors. The mood lighting would be so relaxing and inviting. Can’t you just imagine a BBQ outside with these lights aglow and a cozy spot to lounge about? Perfect!

I do absolutely love these on your fireplace mantle though. And you’re right, these GlobaLink lights turn any space into a magical, relaxing retreat! It’s the perfect lighting for curling up with Virgil and a good book, reading the night away. 🙂

Awesome review, Caz! They picked well when they chose you! Thank you for sharing these with us. I had not heard of them but will be sure to take a look now! ♥ Love, Holly
