Toothpaste Testing : Pearl Drops Specialist White Enamel Strengthening Review
As part of The Insiders panel, I’ve been lucky enough to get to test out a Pearl Drops toothpaste, which I was really eager to try as my teeth are a point of anxiety for me, and I love trying out new products so it’s a win-win. With The Insiders, you get the product to test for free in return for an honest review (no financial incentive) which I will give here.
I’ve used Pearl Drops before, years ago. Their products have been developed since then and the range expanded. Their more recent offering is the Specialist White range.

I have been trying out the latter – Strong Polished White.
About Pearl Drops Specialist White Toothpaste
The product has a few notable benefits :
- Helps strengthen enamel
- Uses dental grade polishing ingredients
- Provides a thorough clean
- Claims to get your teeth up to four shades whiter in only 3 weeks
How does it do this? It uses Perlite in its whitening formulation, which I hadn’t come across before. This is a naturally derived mineral that’s often used by dentists. It has the ability to effectively clean and polish your teeth while leaving them whiter. The formulation also helps to protect and strengthen enamel, which is a feature I tend to look for in products now as recommended by my dentist as my teeth have shown signs of erosion and enamel weakness.
To use – This toothpaste is designed to be used as you would usually and in place of your regular toothpaste. Brush twice a day and continue use to improve and maintain whiteness. There’s a little chart on the side of the box that you can cut out to show a colour grading scale, allowing you to track the whitening over time, which I think is pretty nifty.
The product isn’t suitable for those under 7.
My Experience of Pearl Drops Toothpaste
My teeth have never been particularly white, and this has been compounded over the years by smoking and countless cups of tea each day. I generally try to avoid showing my teeth and have photos with my mouth shut; I do find my teeth to be a source of anxiety and they affect my confidence. I know I’m probably far from alone in feeling like this. In addition, I worry about the condition of the enamel, which has been weakened over time. My dentist recommended products that aim to strengthen enamel, so I was excited to give this toothpaste a try because it ticks a few boxes at once – effective cleaning, whitening and enamel strengthening.
The toothpaste is white in colour with blue specs. It has a slight minty scent that distinctly reminds me of the dentist and what they use. It tastes minty and refreshing without being too powerful; it’s mild enough, though it is stronger on my tongue after use. It lathers well to make cleaning a full-mouth experience. All in all, very pleased with it in use.
I’ve been using this for about a week now. I would say my teeth seem a little brighter, a little shinier, with a slight improvement to colour. I’m looking forward to seeing how things go over the next two weeks and beyond as I’d like to continue using this regularly. So far, I’m pleased with early results because I hadn’t really expected any whitening, and yet already there are signs of this happening. It’s definitely gradual so it’s not a quick, overnight product, but considering it can replace my regular toothpaste and get my teeth clean while strengthening the enamel too, I’m quite impressed.

If it works then that’s a good thing. My teeth are okay color-wise, but having whiter would be better.

I think striving for “better” all the time can be a bad thing, especially when it’s society’s idea of ‘beauty’. That said, if it’s a small expense (which this toothpaste is, otherwise I’d never have bought more!) and helps with keeping teeth clean and enamel strong at the same time, then I think it’s worth trying and if it helps, great. I had never heard of Pearl Drops, but after reading this, I’m intrigued! I feel my illness has affected my teeth (vomiting and dry mouth are never great for the mouth), and I’m constantly on the lookout for something that could help improve my oral health. Thanks for sharing!
I remember buying Pearl Drops many years ago; they’re a reputable brand so it’s good to see a new range of products from them and I’m pretty happy with the one I tried. I’ve just bought two more from Superdrug because they’re on sale. Like you, I worry about the condition of my teeth (as well as wanting them whiter), and vomiting can really affect enamel, as I’ve learned the hard way. I remember this from many years ago, sure I was a teenager! . A family friend had the whitest teeth I’d ever seen
( before the days of teeth whitening etc ) and she said she used Pearl Drops. I bought the product and even though it didn’t have the same effect on my teeth, it definitely helped them look brighter.
May give it a try again as my teeth are definitely dingy looking ????
Ooo that’s interesting how it whitened your friend’s teeth so well. I think these things can work very differently for everybody. Must say so far the newer version ‘Specialist White’ seems better than the original PD for me, so I’d say it’s worth trying. Hope it works for you if you do give it a go! =]

Very interested! I literally just broke one of my fang- like teeth … what are those called? Eye-teeth? something… doesn’t matter because now it’s just my broken tooth. I will need to check this product out. I’ll click in through your blog to Amazon US.
I couldn’t find the enamel strengthening one on Amazon US. I wonder whether there are other online pharmacies over there that stock that particular one..?
Oooh a broken fang – is it a big chip or a little one that’s rough and annoying? I chipped two of my side-on teeth (weak enamel and tooth grinding in my sleep apparently) and left them, and they don’t look too awful now. The front tooth I’d chipped I had to have repaired as that was incredibly noticeable! Did you do anything in particular to break it, do you think? Literally biting off more than you can chew there, Kim 😉

I remember using Pearl Drops maaaaany years ago, when in my late teens, and I have no idea what was in it, but it really did make my teeth whiter. So much so, people asked me what I brushed my teeth with. But … I eventually got married, had children and … well the rest is history.
Until about four years ago, … and I saw it on sale in Tesco (I think) and bought some., with the hope that it would do the same trick that it did in my teens. Sadly … it didn’t. I used it for about three weeks and saw no difference. However, reading your review of this product, I think I might just jump in and buy some to try again. Although my teeth are ok to look at, I can feel that the enamel isn’t all it should be, and they aren’t the sparkling white they once were. So I’m going to give this product a try and see what happens.

It’s good to hear it worked the first time. I wonder if it was a different subtype of Pearl Drops or whether they’d perhaps changed the ingredients to the degree that it wasn’t effective for you. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for this new stuff and so far so good with the whitening – like you, I want to improve the enamel too so at least that’s one bonus of giving this a try.
