As some of you may know, I’m a sucker for jewellery. I adore the stuff and always have from when I was little. When a lovely lady from Jana Reinhardt got in touch asking if I’d like to collaborate, I was child-like excited about it. Spoiler alert: The brand is fabulous & the jewellery is stunning! 

Jana Reinhardt jewellery is for those wanting exquisitely individual and beautifully quirky jewellery to cherish for the years to come. While this is a UK brand, they ship worldwide and offer up a range of beautiful styles for all tastes and occasions.

About The Brand

Who Is Jana Reinhardt?

Jana Reinhardt is a two-person jewellery-making machine made up of Jana Reinhardt & her husband Ross Cutting. The pair are qualified goldsmiths with 50 years of experience in the industry between them. The brand is named after Jana as she was the first to break away from working with other companies to form her own, and there’s been no looking back since. 

The jewellery at JR is hand made to order in their West Sussex workshop. They’re passionate about making pieces designed to last and be treasured for years to come, so each design is made with exceptional attention to detail, love and care. 

Given their remarkable craftsmanship, it’s perhaps unsurprising to learn that Jana & Ross have a few impressive awards to their names, including as a finalist in the UK Jewellery Awards 2014 and being granted the “Collection of the Year 2014” award from the Professional Jeweller.

Away from the workshop, Jana and Ross enjoy spending time with their daughters, whipping up delicious vegan recipes, watching Netflix (don’t we all!) and going for country walks with Bryon the beagle.

Where The Magic Happens

The workshop is based in Worthing on England’s south coast, where a small, dedicated team of professional goldsmiths make the real magic happen. All outworkers and suppliers are based exclusively in the United Kingdom, so you’re buying local and supporting small business when buying from JR. 

Favouring wax carving and fabrication over computer aided design, the team meticulously create each piece by hand. This takes an incredible amount of care and skill, resulting in a unique, quirky and truly one-of-a-kind pieces.

The Products 

Jewellery from JR is made with outstanding care and craftsmanship, yet they still have a surprisingly extensive collection of designs with different sizes and styles for all tastes, ages, gender identities and personal preferences. 

JR sell products from their catalogue as well as offering bespoke, custom-made pieces. They get commission requests from both individuals and corporate clients, and they’ve got some impressive names on the books. In 2019, for instance, they worked on a bespoke commission for the infamous restaurant chain, The Ivy. They designed and created ivy leaf-inspired pieces for key fobs and VIP gifts at the St John’s Wood restaurant. Hey, if it’s good enough for The Ivy..! 

Range Of Styles

They sell a range of product types using various materials, including the likes of gold, platinum, sterling silver, diamonds, ruby, sapphire and garnet. Product types include all the things you’d expect to see and more, including rings (including wedding and engagement rings), necklaces, bracelets, collar pins, necklaces, pendants, keyring and earrings.

While it’s very much a sophisticated and grown up website, the JR designs incorporate plenty of sweetness and quirkiness to appeal to all ages and personalities. They have a dedicated category for children’s styles, where the little ones can be treated with the likes of ladybird necklaces, sparrow bracelets or little duckie earrings.

Bespoke Pieces

You can pitch your requests to JR and they will work their magic to ensure you get exactly what you’re dreaming of. You needn’t have a flare for design to request a bespoke piece either, even a sketch or a suggestion of what you want can be built upon by Jana and Ross. Whether it’s a wedding ring, a treat for yourself, a gift like no other for someone you love, or a piece you want to pass down through generations as a unique heirloom, JR have you covered.

Website & Ordering

On the website you can find more information about Jana & Ross, their craftsmanship, awards, company ethos, updates and testimonials, along with the jewellery catalogue to peruse, drool over and purchase from. 

The Jana Reinhardt website was launched in 2006, with the range growing steadily ever since in tandem with a countless number of happy customers and adoring fans of their work. 

Browsing the website is a pleasure thanks to the minimalistic feel. It’s uncluttered and sleek, with drop-down subcategories to browse by product type, collection or theme. Alternatively, you can search more specifically by keyword. 

Each product has ample information to give you a feel for the piece so you can make an informed decision. It’s easy to add to your basket and checkout, making the whole experience smooth and fuss-free. There’s a sizing guide available on the website, along with an FAQ, helpful advice on caring for your jewellery, testimonials, information on delivery and returns, and just about everything else you might need when ordering.

What I also love here is that JR offers worldwide delivery. It’s free signed-for delivery within 5 working days within the UK for silver and gold vermeil products. Alternatively you can pay a small fee for quicker guaranteed delivery options, so fear not if you’re in a bit of a hurry, though solid gold and platinum takes a tad longer to make so the turnaround is up to 18 days.

There’s also a simple process for returns within 14 days of receipt in the highly unlikely event you change your mind, which is reassuring to know. All pieces come gift boxed and tied sweetly with a satin ribbon. You can get in touch with the brand with any queries and I’ve personally found them to be friendly, helpful and highly responsive. All in all, very good signs for peace of mind when buying from JR. 

Pricing

This is the only part that has any element of a downside for me. The prices aren’t in my usual budget. However, for those who are able to pay a little more for quality then I’d say the cost is a very worthwhile investment. 

These pieces aren’t cheap to make – care, attention to detail and ethical considerations all take time and money, and you’re supporting a small-knit business that genuinely cares about you as a customer. That’s worth its weight in gold. 

I consider Jana Reinhardt to be a great place for thinking-of-you gifts and special occasions, like milestone birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, weddings and so on. I can also see JR being a great option for other brands and businesses when it comes to special commissions.

A Moral Brand

It’s always appealing when you find a brand that seems to really genuinely care, and Jana Reinhardt is one of those brands. Ross & Jana are making positive differences to sustainability, awareness issues and animal rights.

Eco & Ethics

All gold jewellery from JR is made from 100% recycled gold. Much of their silver jewellery is also made from recycled material, and they’re working to get that figure up to 100%. They’ve decided against gold plated jewellery as the process can be detrimental to both health and the environment. When it comes to the sparkly gems, all diamonds are from traceable sources and all efforts are made to source other gem stones from conflict-free countries. 

Animal Rights & Awareness 

Since 2019, Jana and Ross have been raising money at the same time as they’ve been raising awareness with specially designed pieces for charities. For instance, they’ve already made jewellery to support Galgos Del Sol (looking after greyhounds), Keep The Ban (committed to ending fox hunting), OVAID (helping orangutans) and Friends of The Earth (£10 from every Pangolin necklace purchased goes to this campaign). What’s more, the brand has developed partnerships with NAWT and PETA. 

They’ve also crafted pieces in support of autism awareness, such as their 18CT yellow gold autism pendant with diamonds. 

My Beautiful Little Birdie 

I was very kindly the sweetest hummingbird necklace from Jana for this review. It arrived quickly and well packaged via signed for delivery, which was fantastic. It comes in its own quality gift box, which was a delight in itself. Just opening the box gave me the feeling that I was opening something special. 

What can I say? This is a stunning piece that’s made with attention to detail, care and love. It’s delicate and understated, and yet it’s still capable of commanding attention. I’m not usually one for dainty jewellery, but this is one of the few exceptions and I feel like it’s something I could wear forever more. 

Jewellery can be many things for different people. It can be for accessorising and enjoyment; for giving ourselves a boost of confidence and practicing self-care; for showing others how much we care about them; for nostalgia; for emotional support; for remembering loved ones; for celebration. I think sometimes we can underestimate the meaning and power behind a piece of jewellery.

I love jewellery and have a bit of an addiction to it, but I only usually spend under a fiver on any item, racking up drawers full of sale finds and plastic tat. Since living with chronic illness and finding money very tight, I’ve developed this sense of guilt for spending money on myself or doing things to make myself feel good. To have something like this made me feel quite teary. It’s so special that it makes me feel special, too. 

The necklace chain has a lobster clasp and a single loop to fasten it. There’s a distinctive detail here to make it that bit more special, with an extra length of chain at the back and a shiny silver rectangular tag inscribed with the Jana Reinhardt logo. It’s the small details that count, and I particularly liked this.

While it’s a very delicate piece of jewellery with a tiny hummingbird, it feels robust enough to last through daily wear, which is exactly what I plan on doing. You can feel the quality as soon as you see the box, let alone feel the necklace. 

Every element is special, from the smartly presentable gift box to the exquisite hummingbird and chain.

This precious piece signifies hope and it radiates beauty. It’s a symbol of joy, good luck, freedom and new beginnings. It’s an anchor of calm during turbulent times, a sign of perseverance, and a reminder of courage.

All in all, I’ve been thrilled by Jana Reinhardt at every step of the way, from the brand ethics, website usability and product delivery, to the delightful, top-quality products themselves. It goes without saying that I can only give them a glowing review and a high recommendation.
