Apologies for being away for a few days and not being around to answer messages or read other blogs very much. Got taken in to A&E first thing Friday morning, so I’ve spent the last few days in hospital. Glad to be home now but I’m still not quite right, so it’ll be a few days of rest and fingers crossed things get better so I don’t have to go back!

Lovely Smash… There wasn’t enough salt in the world to make this tasty.

Slightly wonky mouth from all the drugs.

The must-have bedside junk… Drinks, sick bowl, iPod, glasses, lip balm, pen & paper. Forgot the Jack Daniels…

Warning to non-ostomates as this contains graphic detail! … It was the same problem as last time – Adhesions (scar tissue) from the ileostomy causing the bowel to kink (hence the excruciating pain) and and causing a blockage. This time, rather than a week in hospital, I made it out in a couple of days because they tried feeding Frank a tube to straighten things out inside and relieve any blockage. This seemed to help, but I’m still very uncomfortable, pretty dizzy, sick, stoma is still huge, and generally feeling, well, rough! At least I managed to avoid needing surgery for the adhesions.

As soon as I’m back home, however, I seem to get straight back into wanting to be practical, stressing about everything and needing to be productive. I think I need someone to pester me to tell me to relax and take it easy, but it’s easier to do when you’re in hospital. I’m still glad to be home though as it gets to be a lonely place after a while, and there’s nothing more comfortable than your own bed. Sadly, I came home to find a letter from the hospital from my last smear test saying I have moderate dyskaryosis (abnormal cells) so I need to go back to have them removed or further tested.

I’ve not always had positive experiences with nurses and surgeons but this time thankfully I had some wonderful nurses taking care of me and surgeons who knew what they were doing <3

I’m glad that you are safely home and feeling a little better. Take it easy and get some rest xx
