Hello to you all, and hellooooo August! I honestly have no idea how it got here so fast, but it’s quite worrying. How have you all been? I hope with the start of this month you can get a renewed sense of hope and encouragement to take you through summer with a resolution to be kind to yourselves and to appreciate the small things in life. Today I’ll leave you with a few picks for Frugal Friday and my best wishes for a positive weekend ????
Holland & Barrett Penny Sale
There are heaps of products at Holland & Barrett right now in the penny sale – Buy one item, get one for a single shiny penny. Bargain! A few things I’ve spotted online include BetterYou Magnesium Oil Spray, calcium & vitamin D caplets, Nature’s Garden Organic Turmeric & Aloe Vera Gel.
Boots Bargains
At Boots this week you can order 1kg of Epsom Salt (by Westlab) for half price – Β£2.49.
The brand Good Bubble has had some positive media attention lately, such as with the Daily Mail reporting how parents are raving about the products improving and curing their children’s eczema in a couple of days. The brand was set up by Amy Wordsworth, who received backing from Dragon’s Den in 2015, and it has grown to encompass a range of gentle products free from added nasties. Great for children, but I’d argue also for adults with sensitive skin or dry skin/eczema and who just want simple, natural and gentle products. It’s now available at Boots.
They also have a Summer Clearance on at the moment so pick up the last minute discounts while you can!
Don’t forget that P&P is free over Β£45 (or Β£3.50 if under) but you can Click & Collect from store for free with no minimum spend.
Appy Days – Free Meditation Apps
There are three great apps I’ve used so I could try them out and share them here if you haven’t already come across them. I’ll do a more in-depth post on meditation apps at some point but for now, if you’d like to check them out :
- Calm App – This includes lots of free content, plus others that need to be unlocked/paid for. If you stick to the freebie parts, you can still access various pieces of soothing music, meditations and even bedtime stories to help you relax your mind before bed.
- [Update : Unfortunately Breathworks is no longer available ] Breathworks – Various guided meditations through an 8 week plan, with meditation files available for download.
- Headspace – A colourful, contemporary app that offers various meditations and exercises designed to suit your schedule and preferences, even if that just means you want a 1 minute breathing exercise or a 2 minute unwinding exercise. There’s some free content if you don’t want to pay to subscribe, just go to the app store. There are sections dedicated to different ‘problem’ areas too, such as managing anxiety, mindful eating, sleep and stress, which all offer a free session.
Free Budget Tracking
More Apps than you can throw a stick at today. Here are two more – these are budget trackers to help with your finances, which may be useful for getting organised and getting a little control back where your money is concerned.
If it’s pen & paper that floats your boat, there are also downloadable and printable freebies to help with assessing your finances and budgeting.
For instance, there’s a printable spreadsheet from The Diary of a Frugal Family that acts as a planner to figure out exactly where you’re money is coming from and going to.
There are also various free budgeting printables from Printable Paper.
For those of us that need more money, which is common in those struggling with illness and perhaps can’t work or are limited in income, I’m afraid I don’t have any wonderful, effective solutions. In the meantime, I did find somewhere to print your own cheques and ‘fun money’ over at Activity Village.

Congratulations on this achievement. I need to grow my subscriber list and interact more with other bloggers. Do you have any tips?
How have I missed this before, what a great section.
This is awesome! I love the idea of “Frugal Fridays”, as I’m doing a Money Mondays series myself.
Your resources are really helpful. I looked at the apps you mentioned – thanks. I also found one called “Money Manager” that got good reviews.
In the next month or so, I’ll be offering a free online class to make peace with your money story,. I plan to post about it on my blog next week.
Feel free to email me at info@forgivingconnects.com if you’d like to connect! So glad to meet you here.
I’m glad you like the Frugal Friday series, and it’s great you do your own Money Mondays, too! Money Manager is one I’ll have to check out and look to mention in future, so thanks for the heads up! I think your idea of free online classes is fantastic π Thanks for sharing, Deborah! x
Thank you!
Perfect timing for your comment. I AM doing a complimentary intro on Self-forgiveness and Money in March. I wanted to let you know in case you’d like to participate!
The class is “Find the Blessings in Your Money Story”. We’ll slow down and explore your current money situation and where you’d like to beβand what gets in the way of that. In the “what gets in the way”, you’ll receive an incredible gift. (This is where Self-forgiveness comes in.)
In the class, we’ll have some great exercises, such as journal questions, a simple solo process to identify your limiting stories and try out forgiveness, and a visualization.
I’m reaching out personally to invite people who I think can especially relate to the topic. Give what you shared here and your creativity and openness, you may find it super valuable!
Would you like me to send you the link to register?
The class is on Sun March 17 from 10am-12noon PST.
If so, great! If not, that’s entirely cool too.
Let me know either way. And, either way, I’m so glad we connected here. You have an excellent blog and a fantastic perspective on money.
Blessings to you.
