[ Guest Post ] 5 Health Benefits Of Massage Therapy

by InvisiblyMe

Today I wanted to share a guest post on the health benefits of massage therapy. I’ve always wanted to treat myself to a massage, and now there are plenty of good reasons to get one!

Do you often feel fatigued? Does your back, shoulder and neck muscles get stiff due to working for long hours? Do you want to get instant relief from pain and attain a feeling of relaxation? If yes then you should consider treating your body through massage therapy as it is well known to improve both physical and mental health. Regular use of massage therapy reduces muscle tension, relieves pain and increase the secretion of endorphins thereby improving your mood and relaxing your body. Apart from the above mentioned uses massage therapy offer a wide range of benefits that are often overlooked. This article will enlist top five health benefits of massage therapy that you must know about to reap maximum results.

1. Lowers blood pressure and increase circulation

One of the long-term benefits of using massage therapy on a regular basis is the improved circulation of blood. Due to stress, the muscles get stiff and constricted, therefore, depriving the body of the required nutrients and oxygen. Use of massage therapy works by releasing the tension and relaxing the constricted muscles. The pressure applied through massage therapy allows the blood to flow through the congested areas and also break down the accumulation of lactic acid which is known to cause muscle fatigue and soreness.

2.  Speedy recovery from injury

An adequate amount of blood supply to the muscles rejuvenates the body because blood is known to carry with it oxygen and other nutrients. When you suffer from some injury, the body finds difficulty in restoring the affected area back to the pre-injury state. Use of massage therapy supplements the injury rehabilitation process by supplying an abundant amount of oxygen and nutrients to the affected muscles this not only improves the flexibility of the body but also accelerates the healing rate.

3.  Boost the immune system

Medical research shows that massage therapy plays a vital role in improving the functionality of the immune system. Massage therapy done on a regular basis increases the number of natural killer cells in the body thereby improving the cytotoxic capacity of the immune system. Research conducted on HIV patients showed that the patients who received a 30-minute massage therapy session for five days a week showed a boost in the activity of the immune system.

4.  Relieve pain and stress

The primary benefit of using massage therapy is getting relief from pain and stress. Stress is important up to some level to perform everyday tasks, but too much stress can affect both your mental and physical health. Stress creates tension in the muscles and soft tissues of the body making them stiff and painful. Research has shown that use of massage therapy significantly reduces stress and give the feeling of relaxation and calmness. It also reduces the levels of cortisol in the body which is known to cause high blood pressure. It also reduces the heart rate and regulates insulin levels thereby making you look and feel healthier.

5.  Regulates blood sugar level

Massage therapy regulates the level of sugar in the blood thus helping the patients who have diabetes and have to receive regular injections of insulin. Research studies show that massage therapy uses different techniques and targets specific areas to reduce the intake of insulin that functions to lower the sugar levels in the blood. Massage therapy increases the flexibility and mobility of the body and also helps in fighting away anxiety and depression.

I agree. I have been going to the same massage therapist for over 25 years. She now does acupuncture and sound therapy also. These massages have helped me tremendously and I recommend it to everyone. I am a believer AND so is my doctor 🙂

Sounds amazing. You don’t know how I wish I could afford to have a massage every week. Some day…some day. 😉

Excellent post. I think I should get a massage as I suffer from high blood pressure. We have a few good local salons who offer this treatment so I will def look into this. Did not realise having a massge helped with so many things.
