Taking Care of Blonde Hair [Guest Post]

by InvisiblyMe

Today I’d like to share a guest post on hair care, specifically for blondes. I’ve found with chronic illness my hair has taken a hit, becoming far thinner & dryer than it used to be. As our hair can impact our confidence, I thought it’s a good post to share to give the beautiful blondes out there some tips and ideas.

Being a blonde can be such a hard task, from the designing and creation to the maintenance of your blonde hair. Whether natural or artificial, blondes are one of the best hair colors to rock.

A blonde hairstyle, no matter how beautiful it is, needs a touch to it, they need to be maintained and taken care of more differently than others.

So, how do you take care of your natural or artificial blonde? Do you just take care of it like you regularly do to your normal hair? No, of course not. If you do that, you’re liable to get your hair full of split ends and your hair could become frizzy and dry, not only that, you could also damage your hair so bad that it would never ever grow again.

Tips For Caring For Blonde Hair

Let’s give you tips on how to take extra care of your lovely blonde hair, keep on reading.

  • Do not bleach your hair by yourself. That’s our very first tip and it comes with reasons. Bleaching contains numerous chemicals that are not just harmful to your hair, but also to your health. The chemicals in your bleach strip off all the natural and essential oils that are meant for the healthy growth of your hair. If you must absolutely bleach your hair, get an expert hair stylist to do it for you. Why? This is because bleaching can easily damage the hair if it is either overused or not done properly. To lessen the damage to the barest minimum, it is highly recommended that you use a bleaching protectant cream. It protects your hair and reduces the damage that would arise from using bleaching products. It also strengthens the bonds that are with the hair to ensure that it doesn’t get broken or damaged, protecting your hair strands from the inside out.

  • Try not to brush your hair while it’s wet. Every hair type, style, and cut know that you don’t brush your hair while it’s wet. Why? Brushing your hair while it’s wet only makes it susceptible and vulnerable to breakages due to the fact that your hair is at it’s the weakest point when it’s wet. Always wait for your hair to dry (blow-dried or air-dried) first before brushing or combing it. It is quite fragile and delicate when wet compared to when dry and that’s not given the fact that a bleached blonde hair compared to a natural blonde is already a little bit damaged.

  • Set aside your heat styling tools. Your blonde hair is already damaged from the bleaching products applied to it, so try as much as possible to stop damaging it the more by applying heat styling tools on it too often. Try going heatless as it is more recommended and safer for your hair at its a present state. If you must absolutely apply heat styling techniques on your hair, it is highly recommended and safe that you protect it with a heat protectant product (spray, serum, cream, etc.). Using these heat protectant products on your hair limits the damages and prevents breakages in your hair shafts.
  • Use varieties of hair masks. Your blonde hair is a special type and should be treated as such, pamper it with varieties of hair masks to nourish, moisturize and enrich the hair. Apply a combo of hair masks overnight to let it penetrate deep into the hair scalps and moisturize it, apply a combo of hair masks during your shampooing, apply one more during your conditioning and before you know it, your blonde will be looking as healthy as ever.

  • Use a toning color safe, sulfate-free shampoo. When washed with shampoo, blonde hair has a natural tendency to change colors. Your best bet is to use a color safe, sulfate-free and toning shampoo to keep your blonde from changing color to yellow and keeping it looking blonde without stripping off its oils.
  • Do not wash too often. Washing blonde hair to often can actually leave it looking stripped and limp and devoid of life, we don’t want our hair looking like that, do we? Luckily, we found a way to combat that. The trick is to wash regularly, possibly 2 – 3 days and your washing days should have intervals where you use just dry shampoo. The use of dry shampoo is to prevent the hair from oil and dirt build up in the hair. It also helps strengthen your hair as blonde hairs are drier in texture and as such don’t need much washing. Go for dry shampoo, washing 2 – 3 days with intervals, apply hair masks generously and oil it with natural nourishing oil to give an amazing shine to your blonde.

These tips will help you take care of your blonde and give it the healthiest and most amazing look.

Thank you for this post. During my much younger years I used to wash my hair every day, but I later realized that it’s damaging to my hair and for the past few years I wash it only once a week, unless it’s the summer and if I’m sweating and I must wash. And the other reason for washing once a week is because the color changes. I hadn’t thought of using a dry shampoo, will try it.
Thank you

I was a blonde for years and this is great advice. The best advice is having a professional color your hair not a friend or yourself doing it. You can really damage your hair.

Have a fabulous day, Caz. ♥

tx for sharing, Caz – & nice job, Sophia – I’ve found it important to be very gentle with the scalp, not just hair, to use cool water & not ‘scrub’, which weakens follicles…

Lulu: “Hmm am I blonde? I think I might be blonde.”
Charlee: “Only your undercoat is blonde. Your top coat is black.”
Lulu: “Are you saying I have blonde roots?”
Chaplin: “Something like that …”
