Frugal Friday : Black Friday Deals Week Special

by InvisiblyMe

I’m pretty sceptical about a lot of ‘deals’ and over the years I’ve honed my shopping, comparing and bargain-hunting skills to make sure I’m getting the best prices. With Black Friday, it pays to think about what you may want, need or use, or what could make a good gift for Christmas and any upcoming birthdays. Don’t buy just because it’s cheap. And don’t assume a cheaper price than the supposed ‘RRP’ is a good deal. Shop around, be savvy, and invest your pennies wisely.

With that in mind, I’ve rounded up a few decent deals worth checking out. * Post updated 29/11/19 for Black Friday *

Amazon Black Friday Deals

Amazon’s Black Friday deals run all week until Midnight Friday 29th November. There’s something in every category, and I’ve found these to be easier to filter & sort than the usual ‘lightning deals’. Check out what’s on offer on Amazon UK and Amazon US.

Amazon Pets – Up to 50% Off (US)

Did you know Amazon US have a pet store? There’s up to 50% off on first subscribe and save orders and plenty of discounts on regular purchases. I’ve done subscription-based orders on Amazon before and have found you can cancel after the first item is received usually so there’s no pressure if you don’t want to continue.

Amazon Prime – Exclusive Deals & Free Trials

There are exclusive deals running for Prime members in the US and over here in the UK.

It’s always worth checking whether you may be eligible for a free Prime trial if you’re not currently a Prime member, too.

US – Some of you may qualify for a Free Amazon Prime 30 day trial. Check your eligibility here.

UKCheck whether you’re eligible for a free trial here.

This is the time of year when I always sign up for Prime because I know I’m going to get good use out of it, not just for the deals but for free next day delivery for Christmas present purchases (especially if ordering at the last minute!) and Amazon video to keep me occupied (and save on paying for a Netflix subscription for a month).

Amazon Music Unlimited

I wrote about this in my earlier Mini Me Update as it’s an offer I bought myself and have been very happy with.

At the moment you can get 4 months of Amazon Music Unlimited for just 99p / 99c. It’s usually £9.99 p/month (making it £39.96 for 4 months) or £7.99 p/month with Prime, so it’s a brilliant discount. Valid for new subscribers. You don’t have to be a Prime member for it either.

Just remember to cancel within this time if you don’t want to continue the subscription. It’s a limited time offer but I’m not sure how long for.

You get unlimited access to 50 million+ songs with no ads, and you can either stream or download to listen to it offline. It’s very versatile as I’ve used it on my laptop through the browser, but you can download on the app to use on your phone/tablet to stream whatever tracks you’d like. If you have an Alexa device you can also play it hands-free via that.

If you want to have a look-see, you can find the 99p offer on Amazon UK here. If you’re in the States, they’re running the same 4 month offer for $0.99 here.

eBay Discounts : 40% Off

For Black Friday, eBay are hosting various deals and discounts.

There are also some ‘flash sales’ throughout this week. On Black Friday itself, 29th November, there’s also 40% off most items in various Brand Outlet stores on eBay. There are heaps of stores, including Deichmann, Crocs, Fiorelli, Get The Label, Adidas, JD Williams, Mountain Warehouse, New Look, Office, Rocket Dog, Superdry, Simply Be, and more.

As far as I’m aware, there are further deals going through the weekend to Cyber Monday. For instance, up to 50% off Coats, jackets and boots at the likes of Jigsaw Clothing and Dune on Saturday, then an extra 20% off everything in the Brand Outlet on Monday. It seems like Friday 29th may offer the best discounts, so check back on Friday to see the Brand Outlet sale.

Buy A Gift (UK) Black Friday Deals

Buy A Gift, who sell various experiences, from haircuts and spa days to afternoon teas & short breaks, currently have some great Black Friday deals. What’s more, you can get 26% off full price & discounted orders today! Use this link and the code VC26BLACK at the checkout.

Frugal Seeds eBook

A fellow blogging friend, Wendi, has released a new book for the holiday period to help you find activities and ways to enjoy the season while keeping costs low : Frugal Seeds: Christmas Edition: 101 Ways to Celebrate the Holidays on a Budget.

Check out this festive edition, and Wendi’s other money-saving books, on Amazon UK & Amazon US.

Sainsburys TU

It’s the last 25% off at TU in Sainsbury’s now until Christmas. Running from Tuesday 26th to the end of next Monday 2nd December. Online & in store. Includes clothing, lingerie, nightwear, accessories for men, women and kids.

The Works (UK)

The Works are very reasonably priced and they have a huge range of goodies. I often get books from here as you can often find them a lot cheaper than elsewhere. It’s free click & collect to store.

For a limited time only, there’s a possible £5 off £15 discount code (won’t work on items exempt from codes, such as some multibuy offers) – use this link and enter the code TWSAVE5 at the checkout.

If that doesn’t work, or you don’t want to spend £15, try the code FF25 (between 5-25% off depending on the item) or FD10 for possible free home delivery on any spend. On Black Friday itself, try code BLACK25 for 25% off (exclusions apply) a £10+ spend.

They have specific Black Friday Mega Deals running at the moment. They’re also offering 3 for £12 on gifts for Black Friday. The items are usually £7 each, so three would cost £21. The regular deal is 2 for £10.

This is where I buy a lot of books and various other bits and pieces. I recently picked up a few books and a very funky 2020 diary for £2, all for around £10. It’s also where I picked up the Happy Jackson mug I use for my morning cuppa. They have other cool Happy Jackson stuff too, like notebooks, water bottles & lunch boxes.

Converse

You probably already know I’m a big Converse lover. I bought two pairs the last time they had a big sale with discount codes, it’s hard to resist when they’re so comfy and always get plenty of use!

Use this link and the code PARTY40 for 40% off a range of styles until the end of 28th November. Add it to the basket when you checkout to ensure it works on the item(s) you’ve selected. If that doesn’t work, try EXTRA20 for 20% off. There’s also a decent range already on offer in their sale with up to 50% off. Delivery is free over £50, and returns are free.

UPDATED: For Cyber Monday, try the code ALL30 for 30% off everything (excluding limited edition & custom orders).

A blue Converse sneaker.

Curry’s (UK)

Curry’s are currently running their Black Friday deals, and there are a few gems to be found, depending on what you’re looking for. The advertising for the Fitbit Inspire with a Google Nest Mini for £74.99 seems to be particularly popular online. There’s lots to be found, from laptops and tablets, to games consoles and home appliances. It’s free click & collect to store, too.

Medichecks (UK) Black Friday Deals

I’ve previously reviewed & recommended Medichecks for their home blood tests after I tried their thyroid test kit. To help save a little more money, you can use this link for 10% off, and just enter the code INVISME10 at the checkout. They’ll also be running some special deals for Black Friday.

Updated: Medichecks 25% off Everything for the Black Friday sale from Friday 29th November!

Have you found any decent deals this week? Or is there anything you’re currently bargain hunting for?

Love Converse sneakers. Was the shoe of choice in school back in the day. eBay has sales up to 40% off? I’ll have to take a look. I have an account that I seldom use. Great tips as long as we don’t go overboard.

It’s the shoe of choice for me, too (and the only shoe that seems to ever fit without falling off, otherwise I’d have to live in boots!) Do you have a favourite design, out of the pairs you’ve ever owned? I hope you’re having a good weekend, Darnell, and thanks for the comment ????x

Black Friday drives me mad! We don’t even have Thanksgiving here but the stores have started bombarding us with Black Friday discounts since a few years. I am sure none of them know why it’s called Black Friday…

Having said that: I LOVE discounts!! Got my eyes on a new mp3 player and I am eagerly awaiting the day after tomorrow ???? You got some good tips on here, too. I am like that. Always looking around before I buy anything and trying to find discount codes online (major thing here) before a purchase.

That just proves us Dutch folks (or at least one of us, heh) really are all for small prizes ????

Hahah yes the Black Friday stuff can get incredibly relentless and intense! I do think it’s so important to shop around and to check the ‘deals’ before you buy because a lot of places are naughty and actually increase the prices before Black Friday or have sales and offers at other times (with promotional codes) that would make it better value to buy at another time. It’s just trying to be savvy about what you’re buying. Do you also get that sense of achievement and smug satisfaction when you find a bargain like I do?! ???? Thanks for the comment lovely, I hope you have a good weekend! xx

Well done, Caz. I will tell you that all our shopping is done. We do it online because I hate to shop.

Have a fabulous day, my friend. ♥

Congrats on being so organised, Sandee! That means you can kick back and enjoy December and the build up to Christmas without as much stress and panic with gifting. Have a lovely Thanksgiving weekend  ♥ xx

These ideas are awesome, Caz! I had no idea all of these specials are going on. You’ve saved a lot of people lots of work in finding all the best goods at the best prices. 😀 Shared this on Twitter for you too!

I’ve got a weakness for Amazon (sigh). They have almost anything one could need at pretty great prices. I’d rather support local, to be totally honest, but that’s not always possible for a myriad of reasons, as you know all too well!

Thanks for sharing these! ????

Aw thanks for the Twitter share! Hahah I have that weakness for Amazon, too. The issue with buying local is the price (and often the limited choice as well). If we were financially able to make most of our purchases locally and with smaller sellers then we no doubt would. I don’t like that people can be incredibly judgemental about things like this against those who use the likes of Amazon. Thanks for the comment, Holly! I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving weekend  ♥ xx

You’ve hit the nail on the head – with all the Black Friday ‘deals’ flying around it’s worth keeping in mind what you actually want/need to buy so you don’t get sucked into buying things for the sake of a deal! I’m keeping my eye on Cotswold and a few other outdoors shops in case there’s a decent deal on a pair of walking boots 🙂

InvisiblyMe November 30, 2019 - 5:24 pm

Absolutely, don’t get sucked in by every ‘sale’, you do need to be savvy about it and check for discount codes before buying too. Ooo walking boots, I have a pair of good ones if you’d like a recommendation? I’ve just bought a few things from Mountain Warehouse for my brother for Christmas and they had some good sales and discounts but I’m not sure what promo codes are available now. Hopefully you won’t have too much trouble finding some at a good price! ???? xx

There are some great deals here. It’s going to be a very tight year for us. No shopping at all, except a token gift for our son. I bought some scarves for Tyler (dear boy must have sensed we’re in dire straits, it’s all he asked for) and bought David a shirt with artistic Ehlie on the front. It’s alright though. We’ve got each other and that’s all I need. I hope you get some great bargains and these lists help others find some great deals.

I’m sorry things are rather tight financially, I’m struggling myself and it’s not a picnic but it does sound like things are worse for you this Christmas. There’s so much pressure on ‘stuff’ and it’s silly because it’s not buying or how much we spend on each other that counts AT ALL, it’s the thought and the love and our actions for the whole year, not just one day. You know the true meaning of Christmas, and that’s more than most people can say ♥ Have a restful weekend lovely xx

I gotta say I love shopping Amazon, they are super in their customer service and are hassle free when you need to make a return. I’ll have to check out Wendi’s book, I’m always a sucker for a book LOL. These are all great deals, thank you for sharing.

I hope you like her book if you do pick up a copy, and her blog is fab, too. I know some people can be scathing of Amazon for being a big corporation and causing other businesses to, well, go out of business, but I love them too and agree that their customer service is (from my experience) fantastic. Thank you for the comment, Masha. Wishing you a lovely Thanksgiving weekend  ♥ xx

It’s the outlet sale that had the promo code on Black Friday, and that has codes until Monday. They also have a Black Friday sale on their Daily Deals I think so it’s worth a look if you’re browsing for Christmas gifts or for anything else in particular ????It’s great to hear you like the Frugal Friday posts, thanks, Liz! Have a restful weekend xx

Great deals. I’m always wary of Black Friday sales as sometimes the offers aren’t as good as they seem!
I love The Works though, I got a great A5 sketchbook for £1, good quality paper too 🙂
