Levoit Water Filter [ Review ]

by InvisiblyMe

When Levoit reached out & asked if I’d like to review their new water filter jug, I jumped at the chance. It was perfect timing as I was just about ready to throw my old one out the window. I can happily report that this has far exceeded my expectations and it’s one I’d highly recommend if you want deliciously fresh, clean water for your household.

Unboxing & Overview

Levoit Water Filter is available at Amazon

The standard jug comes with one cartridge. You can also buy the jug as a set with four cartridges to save money and keep you going for longer.

In the box you get : Your water filter jug plastic wrapped for hygiene and protection, 1 water filter to get you started, an instruction guide & a 2 year warranty card.

A photograph of the Levoit water filter jug sat on my kitchen table, with the box behind it and the filters and Instructions in front.
The filter jug (comes with 1 filter), along with a box of replacement filters (can be purchased separately).

I hadn’t known Levoit were entering the water filter arena until they contacted me. I’ve previously reviewed their air purifier, which I was thrilled with, so I had quite high expectations for this product. Thankfully, it’s actually exceeded them.

You can also find out more or contact Levoit on the Levoit Website.

Key Features :

  • 5 Layer Filtration for clean, fresh water
  • Each filter lasts 60 days
  • Large 2.5L capacity
  • The jug adheres to health and safety standards and it’s made of BPA-free plastic
  • Electronic filter replacement reminder display
  • 2 year warranty and lifetime support courtesy of Levoit

Getting Started

After unboxing, you want to get the filter ready. Remove the ‘restrictor caps’ off the bottom. Fill your sink with cold, clean tap water and submerge the filter fully for 15 minutes. Take it out and rinse it under running water for 10 seconds. Put the caps back on and slot the filter into the jug, where it fits nice and snug, and you’re good to go!

As per Levoit, it’s worth noting that you may see some dust in the water when you’re soaking the filter or first using it in the jug. For this reason you want to filter the first 2-3L and discard them, but the dust is just the activated carbon (made of coconut shells) and it’s harmless to health.

Effective Filtration

The water filter itself is a crucial aspect of any jug like this. It needs to be efficient at filtering, value for money as you’ll be replacing them throughout the jug’s lifespan, and capable of delivering deliciously fresh water.

A diagram provided by Levoit showing the different layers of the filter.

The Levoit filters are hardcore. They’re designed to be as effective as possible with their 5 layers of filtration, as you can see in the picture. These include: The upper micro net, 2 x silver activated carbon, ion-exchange resin and a lower micro net.

A photograph of the Levoit water filter jug digital display.

There’s another aspect that sets these apart from the crowd. They are designed to filter at a stable speed without slowing down or clogging. But you can also adjust the speed if you wish, by simply pressing the + or – on the restrictor caps at the bottom of the filter.

These are designed to remove all nasties, such as heavy metal (mercury, copper, aluminium, cadmium), any taste or odour of chlorine, and any teeny tiny impurities. The end result is clear, clean and healthy water.

These are 60 day filters, designed to filter around 150L of water. You can therefore expect around 2 months of use before needing to replace it. The electronic display on the lid will act as a guide for how long the current filter has left. As this will automatically tell you when the filter needs replacing, that’s one less thing to you have to remember!

Lookin’ Good!

I really like the transparent, colourless design. It’s a larger jug with greater water capacity, which I’m absolutely thrilled with and much prefer. Despite being larger, it looks modern and understated. Whereas some water jugs can seem tacky or flimsy being all plastic, this retains good quality, sturdy and sleek appeal.

Key statistics : Dimensions 27 x 14 x 25 cm. Capacity 2.5L. Weighing in at 1.27kg.

The jug itself is made from BPA-free, food-grade plastic, while the comfort grip handle makes it more practical to hold and use. The product is LFGB, FDA and RoHS certified so you can rest assured of its health and safety credentials.

Out With The Old…

Over the years I’ve had various water filter jugs, including one or two store brand offerings and numerous Brita and Aqua Optima options. The latter are leading brands in the UK, but I’ve been sorely disappointed of late with the quality versus the price. Recent problems have included a flimsy design with brittle plastic prone to cracks, a dodgy flip lid that got jammed when water was being poured, filters that were leaving black bits in the water, and water in the reservoir leaking around the filter into the jug so it wasn’t even being filtered.

In comparison, this is far more robust than what I’ve had previously. It filters the water very effectively and I’ve had no issues whatsoever to report. Pouring the water into the jug from the tap is easy and mess-free, as it pouring it from there into your glass or water bottle. In terms of price, it’s a little more expensive than some but it is, in my opinion, far better value for money considering how well it works and how long lasting I anticipate it being.

My Thoughts On The Levoit Water Filter

I’m really pleased with the larger capacity as I drink a heck of a lot of water and this saves me constantly running out and having to refill the jug. I’m also really pleased with the design and quality of the jug itself. It feels sturdy and robust, but still looks modern and sleek. It’s ergonomic to use and to hold, with a comfier handle to make pouring a little easier.

It’s super easy to get set up with the filter and once it’s in, it fits well with no leaks, which is a relief. The instructions provided with the jug are clear, straightforward and helpful, so there were no problems getting set up.

A photograph of water being poured from the Levoit water filter jug in my kitchen.

The only tiny downside? It’s about 2mm too wide to fit in my fridge door. Damn, so close! I had to get a little creative with re-arranging the fridge, but I’m actually quite liking the change. For this reason, I’d recommend checking the measurements of your door storage but don’t let it put you off because you may find that it’s a good excuse to re-organise your fridge and put the filter on a main shelf.

The taste test – This is an important one. While you might think all filtered water would taste the same, you may be surprised. Compared to previous filter jugs, this one takes the top spot. The water genuinely does taste that much fresher. I tend to use either a glass or a BPA-free bottle (here’s why BPA-free is so important) and the water in both is delicious. Ditto for tea when I’ve used the filtered water in the kettle in an effort to save limescale build-up. Makes drinking water so much easier when it tastes so good! Furthermore, healthy filtered water is eco friendly when you’re refilling a water bottle rather than buying countless single use plastic bottles over time. My personal recommendation, having bought a few myself, is a Super Sparrow bottle.

I like the press down opening to lift the part of the lid when you want to fill the jug from the tap. It works smoothly and it’s a large enough space to ensure you get the water where it needs to go rather than all over the top of the jug. It’s just a lever up affair, rather than pushing down to click it up, meaning there’s nothing to go wrong with the mechanism.

A photograph provided by Levoit of the Levoit water filter jug being filled and another of it pouring.

Filtering is a breeze, being quick and problem-free. When it comes to pouring, there’s a small flap over the spout; this lifts fluidly so you can pour at a consistent rate and it’s narrow enough for quite a precise pour, making it easier to refill the likes of water bottles.

For peace of mind, you get a two year warranty along with lifetime support from Levoit.

Levoit Water Filter Review : Verdict

It’s a pleasure when you can review a product & feel safe in recommending it. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by this and very impressed, both with the jug itself and the water filters. Clean & delicious water, easy to use, BPA-free and an eco-conscious option, excellent quality, robust jug, fantastic filters, and no problems to report, hurrah!

It gets 5 stars from me. I can honestly say it’s the best filter jug I’ve ever had! It’s a very worthwhile investment for yourself and your family, so it’s one I would highly recommend.

I think it can help comparing to other styles and brands, especially as I’ve used some of the most popular ones in the past that I thought would be excellent but sadly were far from it. I’ve been really impressed by this one so it’s a pleasure to be able to recommend it with no doubts. Glad you found the post helpful – Hope you enjoy your new one if you do decide to buy a replacement, whether this or another one. Thanks for the comment lovely ???? xx

Glad to see another Levoit fan! The water does taste great, doesn’t it? I love that it’s a slightly bigger jug than many standard ones, too.

It’s a pleasure when you can honestly recommend something from personal experience. I’ve been surprised by just how good this is, so I’m absolutely thrilled with it. If you do get one, whether this or another, I hope you like it! Personally, I hope they keep making these in the future because I’d like to stick with it forever now rather than faffing and wasting time and money on subpar pricey ones. It sounds like a great water filter jug. I’ve been buying my water and bringing it home since the tap water tastes so awful but this sounds much easier. probably not until December though as I have a lot of bill catching up to do first.

I’ve not had tap water for years, it’s tastes horrible here too and isn’t healthy. So you buy bottled water to bring home? Yikes, that must add up & cost a small fortune. I have been super impressed with the Levoit one, but a water filter jug at home in general is a lot more convenient & it would work out a lot cheaper in the long run too. I hope you do get to pick one up for yourself at some point when you can afford to do so because, I hope, it will be a game changer for you! Thanks for the comment lovely ???? xx

It could be a multi purpose product – water filter jug by day, fish tank at night when the humans don’t need water – good thinking, Chaplin! ????

Not sure they’ve reached France yet but will keep an eye out. We use one everyday. Our Brita holds plenty of water but I know what you mean about the brittle plastic and flap that sticks!

Hopefully they will soon, it would be great if they do make these available to more European countries as they really are pretty fantastic. It’s a shame you’ve had similar issues to what I’ve had with some big brand versions too. I’m very glad to not have to worry about that stupid flap now! ???? Hope you’re having a lovely week and that all’s going well with the furbaby travels, you always seem so busy! xx

Those black bits in the water, or water in the reservoir leaking around the filter has been my past issues. This system looks a lot better. Great review.

It’s frustrating getting those kinds of problems, isn’t it? I’m happy to report, after several weeks of using this Levoit one now, no instances of such problems, or any problems at all for that matter. Levoit done good – It’s a keeper! ????Thanks, Darnell, glad you liked my review – I hope this week is going well for you so far! x

I’ve never even thought about using one of these, which is daft really given I’m in one of the hardest water areas of the country! Great review, I’m going to look into these now! x

I can’t imagine drinking tap water anymore – not to sound snobby! – just because I’ve used a filter jug for so long. The water here is yuck too and it’s a world apart from what you get out of one of these. No nasties, and the water tastes incredibly clean and fresh. It may not be the most exciting thing in the world, but I’d definitely recommend giving a filter jug a try at some point because it’s a game-changer! ???? x

I too, like the size. I drink so much water it is a pain to constantly be refilling a pitcher. This is a good size jug.
Five stars, huh. Sounds like a great deal.

I didn’t realise I needed a bigger one until I tried this, it’s definitely better than constantly refilling or finding it pretty much empty because someone else had a small glass of water and couldn’t be bothered to fill it back up. Really happy with it; who knew I could get so excited about a water filter jug?! ????

A good review, I have a Brita tap at home which is brilliant, integrated into the sink. But for the Motorhome this maybe the answer, so thank you.

I used to use a Brita filter jug years ago but it was getting very expensive with replacement cartridges & half the time it didn’t work well. But an integrated tap, that’s an interesting idea! I’m glad it works well for you, and as you say, a jug like this is an option for other places/occasions if ever you needed one. Thanks for the comment lovely ???? x
