Frugal Friday [ 27/09/2019 ]

by InvisiblyMe

If you’re reading this today, then Happy Friday! It’s been a little while since the last Frugal Friday so I thought I’d gather a couple of discounts and freebies for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Free Avoiding Scams Booklet

Age UK have some fantastic advice and support for avoiding scams, which far too many people sadly fall prey to every day. It’s a PDF and it’s totally free to view/download here.

Free TalkHealth Support Programmes

The fab TalkHealth website offers ongoing email-based Support Programmes, like myIBS, myWellbeing and myDrySkin support Programmes, all of which I’ve checked out myself. Each week they send a PDF with information, advice and tips, and sometimes you’ll get a freebie for signing up, too. You can find a list of all the programmes you can join up to here.

Discounts on Weighted Blankets

I noticed a few discounts on Amazon daily deals for weighted blankets. These have proven quite popular with those who like to get comfy, as well as those with chronic illness and those with anxiety. Although they’re often marketed towards those with anxiety and autism, they’re for everyone and anyone, adults and children alike, and typically come in different sizes and weights. I’d love to try one!

Find all deals on Amazon US here & deals on Amazon UK here.

Curve Card – £5 free!

The Curve Card is an interesting one! If you have a few credit/debit cards you can combine them while also getting extra benefits. The idea is this : You can sign up for a free card, then download the free app. You enter all the cards you want to use (I just put on my debit card), which will be linked to the physical Curve Card. They’ll send the Curve card to you in the post and you can use this in stores, online and abroad. You use the app to flick between cards or your Curve reward account. When you’re out, you need only carry your Curve Card and your phone, as you’ll have access to all your cards and accounts through that one card. Pretty neat!

The other benefits include… Curve customer protection on all your Curve card purchases up to £100,000. Enhanced card security for peace of mind. Real time spending notifications and currency conversions, along with email receipts for every purchase to keep track of your spending. You’ll be able to save on foreign exchange fees and get fee-free ATM withdrawals abroad.

You can lock your card immediately if it gets lost or stolen, and there’s 24/7 customer support.

New signs up… If you use my link to sign up you’ll get £5 free! Once you get the free card, download the app and get set up, you just need to make your first purchase or check your balance at an ATM to get the £5 loaded on your ‘Curve rewards’ section of the app. I did this myself and can confirm I got the £5 freebie without any problems; I used the card linked to my current account to pay for my Sainsbury’s groceries, then had the £5 on my app which I used the next time I was in the supermarket.

For the first 90 days there’s an additional introductory offer to earn a few more pennies. You’ll get 1% cashback at various outlets and retailers, like BP, Sainsbury’s, Booking.com, Shell, Boots and others.

I must admit, I was sceptical when I first got a Curve card earlier this year but I’ve been really impressed with it. I like the freebies ???? It’s also a great option for using abroad, and for those with several cards who can then carry just one in their wallet.

Order your free Curve Card here using this link for your free £5 and it’ll be delivered in 3-5 days!

Medichecks Home Blood Testing (UK) Discount

Medichecks offer a wide range of blood tests, with over 900 varieties available. From thyroid, sports hormones, H Pylori and fertility, to allergies, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, diabetes and coeliac checks.

Standard delivery for all test kits is free. When sending samples back to Medichecks, they provide a postage-paid bag.

You can save 10% by using this link & the code INVISME10 at the checkout.

Everything5Pounds – Free Delivery & Discount!

Shopping on a budget? Everything5Pounds is quite popular with shoppers for having a range of branded de-tagged stock and hidden gems, all for £5. They sell clothes, shoes and accessories for men, women and children, along with a selection of homewares. The £3.95-£20 delivery has always been off-putting, but if you use the code MSEPROMO you’ll get free standard delivery and 5% off, meaning most products can be picked up for just £4.75. Check out the range here and use the code at the checkout.

I hope you’re all keeping as well as possible – have a relaxing weekend ahead!

Caz  ♥

I always love your Frugal Friday posts. The avoiding scams booklet is a great idea. So many people are getting caught by those scammers.

I am now on the £5 website and can’t take myself off it! I think I might be spending money tonight.

Scammers are vile, so I think it’s a brilliant idea to educate about what we can do to not fall victim to any of their traps. The £5 website is always worth a browse when there’s free delivery, but don’t buy what you don’t need otherwise it’s not being frugal (says me who’s blatantly going to buy something I clearly don’t need!) Enjoy the window shopping ????xx

I hope you’re doing well dear Caz, It’s really becoming like an epidemic the scam calls and no one is immune to it so being aware of the scams that are possible is great.
And thank you for the Talk-Health website, great to have that resource. Thank you for the info. <3

You’re right, spam calls and emails (not to mention face to face scams when someone knocks on your door) seem to be becoming increasingly common. It’s very worrying and awful to think of how they prey on vulnerabilities like that. Thank you for the comment, Mishka – I hope you’re keeping as well as possible  ♥ xx

I love my weighted blanket! I got it as a Christmas present last year (it was on my list for santa fiancé). I wanted it for sensory issues, but we both like it now. Hope you get to try one XX

Yes I remember you talking about it and me thinking how good it sounded! That’s what first made me really, really want one, but I’ve still not made the leap to buy one myself, probably hoping I find a ridiculously good sale one day ????Glad you’re still loving it! xx

Hey Caz! Scammers are just everywhere now, aren’t they? I’m constantly plagued by scam calls about my disability, my credit cards, our car warranty and it seems like we find out monthly that one company or another has been hacked and our information stolen. I won’t even answer my phone anymore. That sounds like a great book and we could really use one here in the US! Xx

Ugh, they really are everywhere all the damn time. And hacking is becoming the next big concern as that’s even more out of our control so we can only do so much to protect ourselves. The PDF download is for anyone and everyone, UK & US, though there may be some country-specific elements. Thanks for the comment lovely, I hope this week is kind to you ???? xx

I really want a weighted blanket, I don’t get anxious often but I think it will help with my depression episodes!

They’re supposed to be very therapeutic. I have my own version (aka. my regular blanket followed by my heavy dressing gown) and I find that even that is quite soothing and somehow makes me feel more secure. I hope you do get to try a weighted blanket one day – sounds like we’ve both got one on our wishlists! xx
