Blogger Awards Round-Up

by InvisiblyMe
Picture of a pineapple wearing sunglasses against a yellow background, with the text for the title 'Awards round-up' and a list of the awards.

I don’t often do blogger awards here. However, I’ve been nominated for a few lately and although I’m late in doing this, I wanted to acknowledge the kind nominations. I’ll be breaking a few rules by keeping this short & sweet. It’s the only time I get to break the rules so please forgive me ????

Disability Blogger Award

Nominated by Liz at Despite Pain, Nikki at Brainlesss Blogger, Stace at Fighting With Fibro, Alyssa at FightMSDaily, and Kim at I Tripped Over A Stone

This was started by the lovely Georgina from Chronillicles, where you can find the full rules.

Chronically Hopeful Award

Thank you Pamela at There Is Always Hope for creating this fantastic award & nominating me. Thanks for further nominations from Terri at Reclaiming Hope, Heather at Dinosaurs, Donkeys & MS and Kim at ITrippedOverAStone.

Sunshine Blogger, Blogger Recognition & Liebster Awards

For the Sunshine award, thank you to Helen at Helen’s Journey, Sarah at Life With Spina Bifida, Catherine at Kittyjade (who also nominated me for the Liebster Award along with Jordyn from The Chronically Unimaginable), Eliza at Journey To Life, James at James A. Best, Penny at Hope Found in M.E. A big thank you to the wonderful Gail at Gail Loves God for the Blogger Recognition award nomination.

Instead of answering questions for each, I’ve picked a few questions from different awards asked by different bloggers.

1. What are your best tips for getting through a bad pain flare day?

Close your eyes & click the heels of your shoes together three times, then hope for the best.

2. When was your last vacation and how was it?

It was an all inclusive 8 night stay in Le Hospital. I took a car ride to A&E and was upgraded to emergency surgery and then the general ward. The deluxe suite was fully booked so I bunked with other hospital holidaymakers. Poor window view, too loud, and the food wasn’t up to much. I wouldn’t recommend it on TripAdvisor.

3. If you didn’t have a health condition, but you still wanted to blog, what would be your niche?

It probably would have been a book blog, or more of a self-help/psychology-inspired blog. Better yet, a blog reviewing chocolate. That would have been a good idea!

4. What is your favourite season and why?

Summer. My body seems perpetually cold, so warmer weather means I feel a little better and don’t have to dress like the fashionable Michelin man. There have to my limits to my attractiveness ????

5. If you could time travel, which time would you travel to?

The 60s for flares, platforms, The Kinks, psychedelic flowers & free love!

6. What’s the last book you read?

Tami Hoag – Secrets to the Grave. Brilliant!

7. What is your favourite pain or illness distraction and why?

If I can concentrate, it would be snuggling up with a good book, a cuppa tea, blankets and letting the writing absorb my thoughts.

8. What is your favourite book and tell me why?

I don’t have a favourite, but I’m hooked on American crime thrillers.

9. When you are in a mental funk what do you do?

A shower really refreshes me. I also find something quite cathartic about decluttering as it helps provide some mental space. Getting out in nature, talking a little walk, music and a general change of scenery can all help to dust off the cobwebs.

10. What one thing about you has changed as a result of your struggles?

I’m far more assertive than I ever was. I still have difficulties with many things though, like confidence in using disabled toilets when necessary for my stoma.

11. Name one good thing that has come out of having chronic illness?

I’ve had to adapt my perspective on life and adjust my expectations, along with changing the path I’m travelling. I’ve become a blogger, I’ve learned a lot, and I’ve met some amazing people, making priceless friendships along the way.

12. If you could changed only one aspect of your illness(es), what would it be?

That any of them exist, full stop.

13. What one thing do you disagree with that is widely accepted as true about your condition?

That fibromyalgia is just about all-over body pain. No, it’s so much more than that.

14. Why did you start blogging?

It was just after I had my ileostomy and I wanted to raise awareness of life with stomas and chronic/invisible illness, hopefully also helping others to feel less alone in their own struggles.

15. Where would your dream holiday be and why?

Somewhere warm, sunny and that I preferably don’t have to pay for. Better start entering some competitions..!

16. What series are you enjoying the most right now?

Since getting Amazon Prime again recently, I’ve picked up where I left off with season 2 of Parks & Recreation, so I’ve breezing through that. It’s so easy to watch and always puts a smile on my face. Other good Prime Video picks include The Good Fight, the US version of The Office, New Amsterdam, The Good Doctor, and Animal Kingdom.

17. What is one thing you’re really good at?

Moaning. It’s a solid British trait. If only there were competitions for such a talent.

18. What is the first thought you had this morning?

No. No no no.

19. Since your illness, what is the most important lesson you have learned about yourself?

That I have a deep love for pyjamas.

20. If you were a dinosaur, what dinosaur would you be and why?

Reptar, from the Rugrats. He’s cute but badass.

Thank you for the kind nominations, and thanks to you all for reading, commenting, liking & lurking. It’s very much appreciated. I hope you all have as good a week as possible. Be kind to yourselves  ♥

Caz—

In addition to moaning, one of the fine British traits I’ve noticed (we have a Brit in our family) is superb, albeit sometimes painful, irony and wit. Your answer #2 is a masterpiece in its genre.

You are such a delight, and I wish I could help you banish all the evil spirits that you must accommodate in your journey through life (ie, #12). But you’re doing so much good that people can’t stop themselves from showering you with awards. Congratulations.

And you always have the option of blogging occasionally about chocolate (though that’s a migraine trigger for me, so I wouldn’t read it!)

Warmest regards,
Annie

That’s very kind of you, Annie, thank you! A little irony, wit, sarcasm & a splash of humour are good for the soul ????I appreciate your incredibly thoughtful comment, it means a lot. I’m a little heartbroken for you though that chocolate triggers migraines for you, that’s very unfair! What sweet treats can you have instead? I hope you’ve been keeping well this week, and that you have a restful (migraine-free) weekend ahead.  ♥

I lovehate your answer to question 2, I wouldn’t recommend it either.
The Good Doctor has my heart. Although I did watch it straight after Bates Motel, have you seen that?!

Reply
InvisiblyMe August 16, 2019 - 2:40 pm

Thanks, Gemma! Oooo yes, Bates Motel, loved that too! I was so sad when it ended.. have you seen all the series? The cast is fantastic, and it’s so incredibly watchable.
New Amsterdam was the next medical drama style pick I went on to after The Good Doctor, so I’d also recommend that. xx

Sorry lovely, been rather behind..! What’s new ????Birthday cake was delicious, I demolished it pretty quickly!
It can be a bit overwhelming with awards because questions mount up and it becomes very hard to find bloggers who haven’t been nominated, going through everyone’s posts to see who has/hasn’t.. I think a shorter approach can be helpful like I did (aka. cheating) or just acknowledging nominations. How’re you doing? I hope you’re keeping as well as possible.  ♥ xx

Love this, you fab lady……your sense is humour is always right up my street!! But I think it is so important we can have a laugh at our own ailments and giggle about having a chocolate review blog…..now that I would REALLY love. I must get my act together and do something similar with some of the nominations I have been given – you deserve every one, none more than the Bloggers Bash award that I was so pleased to hear announced live (I made a twit of myself cheering!!) C xxx

Reply
InvisiblyMe August 17, 2019 - 3:48 pm

You’re absolutely right about needing to be able to have a giggle and keep our sense of humour! I really wish I could have been there for the Bash awards, though it still seems so odd even now to think I won something, I never in a million years saw that coming! Thank you so much for the great comment, Claire. It’s fab to see the Magic Monday series back this week, too. I hope you’re keeping as well as possible & that you’re managing some rest this weekend. If I ever start a chocolate blog, I’ll appoint you my chief chocolate taster ????

Ooh, a chocolate review blog, now there’s an idea! I’m sure you could find a way of weaving a chocolate post in amongst all your other fab pieces 😉 I agree with you that de-cluttering can be really cathartic; there must be something to that ‘tidy house, tidy mind’ adage. Also, I noticed in one of your replies to another blogger’s comment that you were thinking of looking for a new mattress. My boyfriend and I kept the previous tenants’ mattress, and only recently got round to replacing it (the exploding springs became unbearable!). We bought a Simba hybrid in the clearance sale at John Lewis (saved about 60% as it was ex-display; their display models are in the shop for max. 10 months), and it’s super comfy! We spent quite a while in the shop trying mattresses out, and it’s also worth checking if the shop has a 100-night (or similar) trial period, so you can always return it if it doesn’t work for you 🙂

InvisiblyMe August 17, 2019 - 3:59 pm

I think I’ll have to do a ‘my favourite chocolate for high pain days’ post, and to make sure I pick the right choices I’ll taste test them all several times! Would you like to be a chocolate taster for a future guest post? It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it ????Thank you so much for the tip on the mattress, that’s really kind of you! I’m glad you replaced the old one and manage to get a good deal at JL. I’ve come across Simba before, on Amazon I think. I’d never considered ex-display, that’s a really good idea. Was that just in a usual high street branch? I really should at least try out a few, and see what the prices are like. I could do with a bed frame too really because mine is great for storage, but the draws have been broken for years, so they often bottom out and you can’t push them in properly. I’ll have to go to my local JL when I’m next in town and see what they have. Thanks, Rosie! I hope you have a restful weekend & get some good sleep on your comfier bed! xx
