Social Media Update

I’ve more recently made the jump to Twitter. I say ‘jump’, I mean more a like reluctant dip-my-toes-in-the-water kind of thing. I’d managed to avoid it for so long but caved in to curiosity. I’ll be honest. I don’t have a clue what’s going on, it’s hard to see who’s Tweeting what & I’m sure I’ve Twittered to myself a few times by mistake. Anyone else not really digging this Twit-Tweet-Twitter business?

I’m also on Facebook & Insta, so please do drop by and say hello. Also feel free to leave your links in the comments so I can find you, too.

Bloggers Bash Awards – Best Lifestyle Blog Nominee

I am shocked to say that I’m a nominee for the Best Lifestyle Blog award for this year’s Bloggers Bash. Whoever has nominated me (crazy fools) THANK YOU. There are quite a few nominees for this category, but I’m pleased to see a few blogs in there that I love & that I voted for, too. I honestly did not expect to see my name on this list whatsoever, so I am truly, deeply honoured. The bash is a great way to get to know discover new blogs, congratulate other bloggers for their efforts & celebrate all things awesome about the blogging world.

Voting is now open & will close on April 24th. I’ve made my votes!

The Bloggers Bash Nominee Badge.

Over To You…

I’d like to throw it out there and over to you – is there anything you’d like to see more of on InvisiblyMe? Do you have anything you’d like changed to make it more accessible, is the font easy enough to read, are there any types of articles you prefer? Any thoughts are welcomed & much appreciated.

Health Update

I’ll keep this brief as starting talking about my health at the moment could have me writing an essay. I’ve finally had my stoma stitches out – hurrah! Better late than never. It hurt like hell but I’m glad they’re out. My post-op follow-up was a bit of a waste of time as nothing could really be said. I’m waiting on the laparoscopic investigation in London which has to be pushed back a little because I’ve been advised a break of at least 3 months is best following my emergency surgery before any more surgery.

Pain has been up lately, as has my anxiety. Migraines every other day, just to make me that bit grumpier. I’m losing a lot of time with so much of it being taken up with not being well enough to do anything. It gets frustrating, as many of you will know all too well. Mentally, I’ve not been doing so well. I didn’t want to post specifically about it on here as it would have been an incredibly negative, rant-filled post, and that probably wouldn’t help me or anyone reading it. But I do want to be authentic here, and show that it’s not positive all the time. So yes, I’ve been struggling and spiralling. But it’s all swings and roundabouts, and in the more challenging times we need to remember that we’ve been through worse and made it, and we’ll be okay this time, too.

Personal Update

The presents for my mum wrapped in green and pink Hello Kitty wrapping paper.

It’s my mum’s birthday this weekend on the 14th. I managed to find the coolest Hello Kitty wrapping paper. I also bought ‘Happy 21st’ balloons. I hope that at 71 she can see the funny side.

I’d like to hope we could do something to celebrate, maybe a small day trip in the next week or two. With my body struggling just running errands in town, however, I’m apprehensive of what to suggest incase I ruin it, dragging myself along and not being capable of doing much all day. It’s about adjusting and adapting to what you can do, it’s just a bit harder when you don’t want to disappoint someone else or ruin their day.

I’ve been reading heaps of books, drinking ample Options Belgian hot choc (highly recommended, tastes yum), and I treated myself to Netflix for the month. I’m over 10 years late to the party with this one but I’ve just started Mad Men & loving it. With 7 series to get through, it should keep me busy during times when I can concentrate on it. What’re you watching and/or reading at the moment?

Thank You

Thank you all for reading, for you comments & your support. You rock! I truly appreciate each and every one of you, and I’m proud to be a part of such a fab blogging community.

Whatever you’re up to over the weekend, I hope it’s a good one & that you’re all keeping as well, and as rested, as possible.

Caz   ♥

Congratulations on the nomination. Good luck with the voting.
No, I don’t get Twitter, I’m afraid.
I joined up ages ago but never really saw the point. It’s so ephemeral – why spend precious time writing something that disappears so quickly – unless you say something stupid that gets repeated ad nauseam.
Life’s too short.
Good luck with building up your strength too.

Thank you very much, Cathy. You’re right, it’s the stupid stuff that often gets remembered & shared, even to the point of making newspaper headlines! Your kind comment is very much appreciated. I hope you have a lovely rest of your week 🙂

Well done on your nomination!!
Twitter is a bit strange. Everything moves so fast so if you do tweet to yourself, nobody is likely to notice. I use it, but I often wonder if I am just wasting time on it. I like Facebook, but Instagram – I haven’t got around to yet. I did open an account, but I have got no further.
Happy 21st birthday to your Mum. Love your humour.

Thank you! And thanks for the birthday wishes, I’ve passed those on to my mum! You’re right about Twitter, things definitely move fast. I feel like it’s a bit of a waste of time, too. I’m still glad I’ve checked it out though to see what all the fuss it about, so I might keep it going a bit longer, see how things go. I find Instagram quite enjoyable as you’re looking at images and quotes and things are clearer to see what’s what; comments aren’t as big a deal and you don’t re-share things (that I’m aware of) so it’s far simpler. What’s your tag on Insta so I can find you if you do start to share a few things? 🙂

Busy, Caz! Have you tried Aimovig for your headaches? It works amazing for me. I get daily headaches that just won’t go away no matter what I do. Some are horrid, others nagging. The Aimovig has really helped.

Reply
InvisiblyMe April 17, 2019 - 4:31 pm

Unfortunately NICE rejected Aimovig so I don’t believe you can get it prescribed in the UK sadly. I’m so glad it works for you though, that’s brilliant to hear. I get daily headaches, too, what I refer to as ‘low level’ (as over time you get used to them and can tolerate them) but migraines are a whole other ballgame. Sumatriptan is the only thing that deals with my migraines, but I’m so grateful for it and thankfully I don’t get nasty side-effects with it, but doctors limit how much they’ll prescribe which is very frustrating. Will keep my fingers crossed things change over here to give Aimovig the go-ahead as I’d be interested in trying it and I know there will be a lot of fellow migraine sufferers who’d be keen to see if it can help them, too. Thanks, Jacqui! xx

Happy to read your update on things, and glad that you’re doing well overall. I understand about authentic feelings and sometimes being less than “happy” online but it’s all part of the experience, isn’t it? You do a great job here and I’m thankful for your blog.

Great post Caz, and congrats on your nomination – well deserved!. Glad to hear all ok re Stoma, and here’s to a good rest before London. I signed up toTwitter around 2005,and popped back in a few weeks ago. I don’t mind it, but have never tweeted anything!. Haha. M and I watched Evil Genius recently. Very good, but was subject matter. And I heard Better Call Saul won’t be out until next year, so gutted about that!. Hope you have a lovely weekend, and happy birthday to your mum. 🙂 xx

Aw thank you very much, I was amazed to be nominated, it warmed my heart! Made me chuckle that you’ve never Tweeted anything – I signed up years ago, took a quick look & decided to not bother. I never Tweeted with my personal account from all those years ago either! I watched Evil Genius and it was very good, albeit shocking. When the bomb went off I was surprised, not just that it was recorded but that it happened, I guess because it seemed more likely to be a hoax. Noooo, not sure I have the patience for Better Call Saul, I would have anticipated that would be this year. Damn. Anything on your current watch list? Thank you for the birthday wishes, I’ve passed them on to my mum who was amazed readers were wishing her a nice birthday! 🙂

Congrats, dear. That’s lovely news.

I generally love finding new stuff about the people I follow, depending on whether they like to share it. It can be a two-way thing, like what Kim has been doing, short questions, asking your followers and answering the questions yourself.

I find the font a bit hard to read on my laptop.

Kisses and hugs

Thank you for the congrats & also the fantastic suggestions. I’ve changed the font – I’ve tried a different font face & made it a bit thicker, so hopefully it’ll be easier to read. Please do let me know if it’s not. I like the idea of asking & answering short questions, I love the ones Kim does as they always allow for such diverse & interesting answers! x

Kirsty April 13, 2019 - 7:11 pm

That’s great news about the nomination – congratulations!

I don’t think I’ll ever feel as at home on Twitter as I do on say Facebook, but I use them differently. I feel deeper connections with people on Facebook, but Twitter is a good way to get out there, join conversations about things that matter to you, and also discover new content or people whose blogs you might like to follow. As someone who won’t be joining Instagram any time soon, I like the lack of restrictions on Twitter – you can post a comment, a link etc, and aren’t tied to just posting images. Because as someone who can’t take her own images, that’s not my idea of fun. I’d say sticking with Twitter does have benefits if you can persevere – I’ve come across some really cool people and blogs on there.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you and your mum have fun. I think the main thing is that you’ll be spending time together. Maybe try and plan in some really relaxed days beforehand and do something that is a bit different, but won’t drain you too much. Easier said than done I know, especially if you don’t know in advance how you’ll be feeling, but whatever you decide, I hope you have a lovely day and your mum enjoys her birthday. XX

InvisiblyMe April 18, 2019 - 12:19 pm

Aw thank you Kirsty. And of course you’re right about how it’s just spending time with someone and it doesn’t really matter when you look at it like that what you do particularly. I’m hoping we can do a little day trip on the train, but she knows how it’s like for me now and she’s very considerate so I know she’ll understand if it doesn’t go the way we’d have hoped.

I agree with feeling deeper connections to people on Facebook, definitely. Twitter seems quite superficial, and it’s always moving so nothing is ever appreciated all that much I don’t think, unless it’s some crazy tweet that gets retweeted a million times and hits the newspaper headlines! I can appreciate the benefit of more text and no pressure with photos, and as you say you can find lots of new people and blogs and information through it as a sharing platform, too.
Thanks so much for such a fantastic comment, Kirsty!  ♥

Wendy April 13, 2019 - 7:17 pm

I too do not get the whole twittering thing. I tried it for a while and it never did anything for me, then when Trump decided to use it as a platform I really knew it wasn’t something I knew I had to walk away, I can’t see that on a daily basis and no matter what your feed someone seems to be talking bout it. I’ve walked away from all social media except blogging for the most part. My posts are automatically posted to FB and Twitter, but I admit I rarely go there myself. I was using IG a lot, but that waned too. That one I might go back to, doesn’t seem to be as much drama.
I’m always so amazed that you can keep up with so much. You must have a system, can you share? How do you keep up with so many? You always make me feel so special, I’m sure you make everyone you know feel just as special. You are very special. And you put in a lot of work on your blog and care about what your readers think, even down to if the font is readable, I’m not surprised you were nominated for the blogging award at all. I’ll be over to cast my vote!
Personally, I like hearing about you more than anything else you blog about. Your personal stories bring it home to me and make me feel like i”m not alone in all of this. Knowing that you are dealing with anxiety, migraines, and stuff you don’t feel you can talk about here is something I can really relate to. And I unload a lot on my blog, it’s pretty much all it’s about lately. Oh my poor, poor readers. But I when I think back on your blog, the posts I remember are about you.
Wow, it’s mom’s birthday time again,, it doesn’t seem like it was a year ago. This year has been a blur. Perhaps you can make very low-key plans, like a tea? Or just spend time together giving her, her present. I’m sure she will appreciate any time with you, those who love us understand when we feel our worst and appreciate that we make the effort to still spend time with them. Well hopefully they do. If you don’t feel up to it, give her a coupon good for a day out at a future date. 🙂
You are an awesome individual.
Always know I care.
XOXO Wendy

Politics and Trump, even in the UK, are definitely hard to keep away from! I’m glad I’m not the only one to not ‘get’ the whole Twitter thing though, but like you I’m using that and FB for sharing posts.

Aww, it’s heartening to think you view me as someone that can keep up with things! My system? Currently it’s called ‘fall behind constantly & stress to keep up!’ I fall behind on reading blogs and I hate that, because I want to know how everyone’s doing, like you. And then when I’m doing that I fall behind on replying to comments on here, let alone writing my own blog posts, that always seems to come last ironically enough!

Thank you for your kindness towards my blog & what I write, I truly do appreciate it. Don’t apologise to your readers for sharing your stuff, it’s good to read & hopefully it helps you unload a little in the process. I always admire your honesty and openness in what you share. I wish I could write a little more freely sometimes, I don’t do it often enough.
My mum’s birthday was definitely low-key.. ended up watching the Bohemian Rhapsody film, which we both really enjoyed, but I’m still disappointed we haven’t done more. I’ve spoken to her about a little day trip and she understands how much I struggle, so hopefully we’ll manage something and I won’t feel too bad about it when I do struggle because some things are worth doing to make memories. The coupon is a great idea! I actually made one a few years ago to go to Bristol Zoo… we never went! She’s still got the coupon so maybe she’ll have to ‘cash’ that one in & we could try that this year instead!

Always know I care about you to, Wendy. You are a beautiful soul & I’m so glad I ‘met’ you on the Blogosphere. You make it a much brighter place.

Thank you for such an incredible comment, I really appreciate the hell out of it!  ♥

Sounds like you’re in a similar boat to me with Twitter then, forgetting it’s there and then going back to it; do you get confused with all the notifications, too? I could start a new trend on Twitter with twittering to oneself, but I’m not sure about anything else! I hope you have a good Easter weekend resting up lovely xx

Hey Caz! First congrats in the nomination! Yay! Also on getting those stitches out! I’m so glad we can get to your side through Wordpress, instead of having to click through a couple sites… I still have to answer all the name, email, website questions every time I comment. Bummer. Wish that could be changed. I like your site! Very clean, easy to read. As for Twitter, I was on for awhile. It wasn’t my kind of social media interaction platform that I found enjoyable… but to each there own. I’ll find you on Instagram! Oh, anyway to make your font a bit darker? Or choose a different font through the customized? I agree with Bojana, the actual font is so light, it can be hard to read on certain devices. Now I must go vote for you!!! (After I fill out all my information again, so I can leave you this comment.)

Honestly though, don’t waste a vote on me as I don’t stand a chance of winning, but there are lots of great blogs in the Lifestyle category worth your vote 🙂 I’m sorry you’re still having to fill in your ‘deets’ at the cool kids say these days, every time you comment; I have to do the same on quite a few other blogs, too, but I’m not sure how that can be changed. Will ask Mr Google again as there’s probably another plug-in I can try. I took the note on the font under advisement and I’ve changed the font face but I’ve also made a little heavier too so it should be clearer to read now. Please do let me know if it’s not though. Thanks lovely! =]

I have the premium, one step up from personal account on Wordpress. I’m spoiled because Wordpress does everything for me. But since I have a buy book button on my blog, mr. taxman gets the bill for the blog cost! Advertising expense! Haha. Going to fill out my deets and check the box! ????

So sorry to hear that you've been struggling a bit. Know that my prayers are with you. I hope you & your mom will be able to do something special, fun, memorable and that you will truly be able to enjoy the day!

As for Twitter, it takes a little getting used to. I had ZERO social media before starting my blog. Just wasn't interested in all the phoniness, comparison and gossip going on. :I I still don't have Facebook but do have Insta, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. When I first began Twitter, I tweeted myself a few times too, LOL! 😛 Plus, I made major "twitter etiquette" mistakes apparently, but hey, who cares! Learning is learning. You'll get it. 🙂

Love ya, Caz. Have a wonderful day friend! ♥

I agree with social media having a lot of negative aspects. I don’t use it much personally, but I do for my blog, so like you I find it better for those purposes where there’s less issues around comparisons & gossip nonsense. Glad I’m not the only one to Twitter to myself! What were the major “twitter etiquette” mistakes you made? I’m curious!

Most important is self-care right now, you need the body and mind detox. It will reduce your stress which may lift your spirits and help bring the frustration down. I’m learning self-care myself. It still feels odd and a waste of time but I know it feeds my body and mind. I

I think you’re right, I could do with a detox. I’m glad you’re working on self-care, it does take a while getting used to because we’re so geared towards being productive and doing things for other people and such that we can feel guilty doing it or like it’s a waste of time. It’s definitely not, it’s important for our overall wellbeing, not that knowing this makes it easier to do sometimes though. xx

Oh, I just joined Facebook and know nothing, if I can’t feel more comfy soon it close it down for me. I’m a Twitter veteran but Facebook is a jungle.

Seems we’re the opposites here then – I’ve been on Facebook since it began and find it easier to deal with, whereas it’s the opposite for you. I do think Facebook has its benefits, and you’ll get the hang of it before too long, especially if you’re already a Twitter ninja. What’s your page on Facebook, is it for your blog? If you send me the link I’ll follow 🙂

Yes, Caz, you deserve that nomination. All the best.. 🙂
I did have a Facebook account for a while, but, closed it… I just don’t have time.. Life, you know, Caz; it sends us here, it sends us there, it sends us everywhere!
Good to read you’ve got the stoma stitches out. Not good to read you’re not doing so well mentally. However, Caz, I know you’ll get through – sending hugs & kisses! &
Happy Birthday to your mum… Well; belated Happy Birthday that is! Hope she loved the Hello Kitty paper! 😉 😉

Aw that’s very kind, thank you. And thank you for the birthday wishes, I’ll pass those on to my mum! She liked the paper, though probably not as much as me, as I was tempted to reuse it and start papering over my walls with it 😉
You’re right about life, and it’s good you’re taking it where it leads you, even if that means saying byebye to Facebook. Thanks for your lovely comment, Carolyn. Hugs to you too – I hope the rest of the week is kind to you  ♥

Aw you didn’t have to do that – don’t waste votes on me because I don’t stand a chance at winning, but there are lots of great blogs in the Lifestyle category to vote for. I really do appreciate it though, it’s very kind Amelia! 🙂

OMG. I know exactly what you mean by accidentally doing the @ and your own name and it accidentally goes to yourself.
I don’t think we follow each other on Twitter or Facebook but my Twitter page is @Artallhe and my Facebook page is Allheart Australia. By the way is Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disorder the same thing as Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder (MCTD). If so, we should totally team together to do something for awareness month next month But is has to be art related. . So far all I’m doing is hand making awareness ribbons. Wish your Mum Happy belated Birthday for me.

I ‘like’ you on Facebook as InvisiblyMe & already follow on Twitter =]
You’re right, UCTD is MCTD; basically, it could be any or various types but they can’t figure out what exactly! I hadn’t realised it was awareness month for it in May; I’ll have to Google it, but is it for connective tissue diseases in generally or specifically undiff/mixed? Thanks for the birthday wishes for my mum, she’ll be very happy to get them when I let her know! 🙂

Much appreciated, Darnell. You’re a fellow Mad Men fan then? I’m hooked, so I’ll probably be finished it all before too long! Anything else you’d recommend? x

Hah that’s brilliant. Well, not that you still get confused by it, but that I’m not alone in my Twittering struggles!
Thanks for the lovely comment – I hope you (and your new Fitbit) enjoy the rest of your week!xx

I know what you mean about Twitter – I’ve never really got it either! I have just followed you though!

I have a confession… I nominated you for the award! Weirdly enough, someone nominated me for a Bloggers Bash award this year too – wasn’t you was it?! Lol. Are you going to the event in June?

I’ve had more migraines and anxiety too – just riding them out. Sending a virtual hug.

I’m glad I’m not alone in not really getting it, Rachel! Thanks for the follow =]
Aw you didn’t have to vote for me – it’s very kind but it’s a waste of a vote as I don’t stand a chance of winning, but there are lots of other great blogs there to vote for. Hahah yes I did, good guess unless they told you that it was me? I’m not going to the event, I never thought I’d ever be nominated so it’s come out of the blue! Are you..?
Sorry you’re struggling with evil migraines & anxiety, too. Fingers crossed they ease up for both of us soon. Thanks again, Rachel – hugs to you too  ♥

good luck with twitter – tho haven’t warmed up to it much myself.

wow!! so happy for your nomination! I clicked right over to the site & had such fun voting for you & others – tx for letting us know & highly recommend!

binge-watching often leaves me feeling like I do when I eat too much candy so am currently trying to control myself thru Outlanders & Bramwell, both of which I’m super late to.

happy belated bdy to your mom – hope it was fun for her & you too, dear Caz 🙂

Aw no, I think people should save their votes for other bloggers as I know I don’t stand a chance. There are lots of fab blogs in the lifestyle category to vote for though!
Bramwell? I don’t think I’ve come across that one. Will have to check IMDB! Where Netflix is concerned, self-control is overrated 😉
Thank you very much for the birthday wishes for my mum, I’ve passed them on! Have a lovely rest of your week  ♥

Congratulations on your nomination Caz – they couldn’t have chosen a better person and blog! I’m going to pop over and vote as soon as I finish this. You are such a blessing to me, and I’m sure to many others, and I’m so glad you’re getting this much-deserved recognition.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with so much, including the migraines and anxiety. Migraines are awful, and I think they tend to exacerbate anxiety because honestly, sometimes you just feel like anything that hurts that much must be killing you. I really hope both subside soon. You’re in my thoughts and prayers sweet friend.

As for the whole Twitter thing, I feel your pain. I have a hard time figuring out what’s going on sometimes too, and of course, now that I’ve been out of the loop for several weeks, I’m really feeling lost. I’ve probably tweeted myself too from time to time. ???? That’s okay — it’s such a busy platform maybe nobody will notice we’ve done it lol.

Sending love and hugs your way!

That is incredibly kind of you, Terri. I think you have a little too much faith in me, however. BUT I’m learning to take a compliment, so thank you. However, I wouldn’t waste your vote on me; there’s no chance of winning but there are some great other blogs that have been nominated that are worth voting for.
I’m glad I’m not alone in self-tweeting. At least, I’m going to assume you’ve done it as that makes me feel a bit better 😉
How are you managing at the moment? You’ve had so much going on, and yet you still found the time to read this & write me such a lovely comment. I do hope you are okay, and that your pop is recovering well. How’s the fur baby? Sending you my best wishes and thoughts also, and lots of love xxxx

No, I just have a quick look. My word press blogs are linked to Twitter, but I don’t put anything else on.

InvisiblyMe April 30, 2019 - 3:02 pm

I don’t blame you, it’s definitely confusing. Setting it up to automatically post new blog posts is a good idea, I do that too usually for Facebook and it makes things a little easier & quicker 🙂

I tried twitter, still have an account as many bloggers do, but I don’t see how it enhances my experience. But that is just me. I am not a fan of social media anyway.

I hope you are doing well. I also wish you all the best. I bet when they finally do the follow up exams all will turn out well.
Be well Caz.

I’m struggling to see much benefit from Twitter either, but I feel I’ve learned a few things along the way and I can tick it off my list of things I’ve tried. I just don’t understand you’re supposed to keep up with what’s going on, it all just looks like a complete jumble of words and posts to me. Thank you for your lovely comment – I hope you’re keeping well also, and that the weekend treats you kindly 🙂
