BetterYou Magnesium Oil Spray [ Review ]

Today I’m thrilled to share another product test & recommended brand. For those with deficiencies, those unable to get a varied diet for whatever reason or who have problems with absorption, supplements can be a hugely important part of your healthcare regime. Today I’m taking a look at the BetterYou range, and in particular the magnesium oil I’ve recently been trying.

About Better You

BetterYou provides British made, cruelty-free, effective health supplements that are supported by science and backed by thorough testing standards.

They have won a variety of awards, from the Best Sleep Brand in the family Awards 2017, to the Natural Lifestyle winner in the Best Sports category 2015.

BetterYou focus on bridging the gap between a healthy diet and lifestyle, and your health needs. For those with problems with absorption or getting a varied diet for whatever reason, supplements can become incredibly useful. They’re also great for those without chronic illness to top up levels on a daily basis or just as-and-when they’re needed.

The brand provides products that are 100% lovingly natural and, where possible, suitable for diabetics, those with coeliac disease, vegans and vegetarians.

Working alongside institutions, BetterYou is heavily involved in research to ensure they’re at the forefront of the latest developments and initiatives so that their products can fill consumer needs and the most effective, the safest and the best quality they possibly can be.

You can find out more on the BetterYou website.

The Range

They have a range of supplements, including : Turmeric, multivitamins, Vitamin D, Iron, Vitamin B12, Magnesium and Vitamin K. Product target a variety of health needs, from general wellbeing, sleep and relaxation, to muscle health, sports-related needs, energy and pregnancy.

Supplement types also come in numerous forms, such as with oral vitamin sprays, magnesium flakes, gels and lotions. This means you can choose an alternative to standard tablet-form supplements that suit your needs.

The BetterYou Magnesium Oil Spray

The BetterYou Magnesium Oil spray, which comes with a cardboard outer for the packaging when bought where you can find further details of the product.

I was kindly sent the BetterYou Magnesium Oil to test & then give my honest opinion of. Magnesium is a hugely underrated yet vital element that has numerous roles in the body. I’d highly recommend supplementing magnesium, but as always, if you’re unsure whether this is right for you, please speak to your GP. This oil comes in a plastic bottle with spray nozzle, so it can be easily dispensed by spraying the desired amount mess-free.

Their Magnesium Oil is available in 5 different formats : Goodnight Spray (for restful sleep), Joint (combined with glucosamine to help your joints stay flexible and supple), Original (also supports and helps relax muscles), Sensitive (dermatologically tested to be gentle on skin), and Recovery (to promote muscle recovery and performance).

I have the Original spray, which is described on their website as being their “strongest and purest Magnesium Oil and provides the ultimate way to replenish magnesium levels”.

What’s inside? “Mined in Northern Holland from a seam one mile below ground, our magnesium chloride has been naturally condensed and purified for over 250 million years, free-from man-made pollutants and heavy metals, Zechstein Inside® magnesium chloride guarantees a naturally pure source of magnesium.”

This is designed to support muscle recovery, to support overall wellbeing, and also to enhance the absorption of calcium.

Once sprayed onto your skin, which can be targeted for specific muscle stiffness, it gets to work straight away. The “Zechstein Magnesium commences absorption immediately” so you can rest assured that your body is getting the good stuff quickly and efficiently.

Each bottle contains 100ml of oil. 100ml is estimated to provide 600 sprays. Every 10 sprays provide at least 200mg of elemental magnesium, equal to 57% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA).

Directions For Use

For first time use, you need to take off the plastic seal around the lid. This is designed to be sprayed directly onto your skin and then gently massaged in. It’s best to apply this to clean skin, so i’s perfect for when you get out of the shower or for before you get into bed to help you relax and nod off to sleep. You can spray anywhere, but avoid any problematic or broken skin areas, and of course delicate areas or anywhere near your eyes. If you have specific muscles that are stiff, painful or sore, concentrate on those.

Me holding the BetterYou Magnesium Oil spray.

When first using this, they recommend starting with 5 sprays across the body and building up to 10. It is suitable for children and for use during pregnancy. As always, however, do check with your doctor if you’re not sure whether this is right for you.

They do note to be mindful you may get a tingly sensation when you apply it. If you do, it may suggest low magnesium levels and skin tingles because of the quick absorption of the magnesium through your pres. The tingling will likely subside after regular use and you can always dab your skin to ensure it’s fully dry after you’ve massaged the oil in.

My Thoughts : BetterYou Magnesium Spray

Firstly, I love the ethos of the brand and the reassurance of knowing the product is natural & top quality. The range is good and customer services are helpful with any queries you may have.

The bottle for this particular oil is an ideal size to make it easier to hold and use, and convenient to both store at home and take in your bag if you’re travelling.

The push-down spray is reasonably easy to push, depending on your hands (ie. those with arthritis may struggle with push down sprays). The spray is quite powerful, which is good so the oil doesn’t dribble out. It comes out as a thin-to-medium consistency oil, so don’t expect a fine mist. Thankfully, I’ve found it to be fairly convenient and mess-free, so once you’re done you can replace the cap and get on with your day (or head to bed if you’re applying it at night). I was quite surprised at how one spray can go a long way, so I found it very easy to massage in. If you want to use it on harder to reach areas, you could get someone to help or do what I did, which was spray once onto my fingertips to rub it into my shoulders.

It’s clear when it goes on but you can see where you’ve put it because it’s shiny. You’ll notice the glistening goes away as it dries and absorbs after a few minutes. There was no discernible smell, which I prefer. Once it’s absorbed, skin feels quite smooth but I can tell it’s there, however it’s not sticky, so that’s good. It’s therefore easy enough to use, but perhaps not quite as quick and convenient as swallowing a liquid magnesium.

It’s lovely to use as part of a morning, after shower or bedtime routine (but I don’t like baring skin at the moment when I’m so cold!) I think it comes down to personal choice as to whether to opt for an oil as opposed to, for instance, liquid magnesium. This gets a lot of great customer feedback; and a lot of users swear by it and I can see why.

The Better You range can be purchased from the likes of Amazon and Boots (UK), but what I also like is that you can buy products through their own website, with worldwide delivery, which is helpful if you can’t find specific products on Amazon or similar in your country.

I would recommend this for…

  • Those who don’t like, don’t absorb or don’t well tolerate oral supplements.
  • Those who have symptoms of magnesium deficiency and/or want to see if it can help in areas such as fatigue, muscle aches, depression and sleep.
  • Those who appreciate a mini massage.

The rest of the range is certainly worth checking out as there are numerous supplements and forms to suit various needs and personal preferences.

It’s definitely good to have options, and this is one I’d recommend if you want to combine increasing your magnesium with massage, especially if oral supplements aren’t preferred/tolerated. Glad you liked the review, thanks Nisha! 🙂

I use this spray and it really helps me with my legs. It might be the combo of massage plus magnesium, but I find that I am less stiff and my restless legs aren’t as bad at night. I use it before bed. Great review Caz! xx

It’s wonderful it helps you, and I think that combination with massage can be really beneficial to muscles. I hadn’t had restless legs until after my last op and it’s been driving me crazy so I’ll have to focus more on my legs with this one. Glad you liked the review & thanks for the great comment, Jen! 🙂

If it’s an oil you’re after, I’d definitely recommend checking this one out. A lot of people swear by it and I can see why. I’ve browsed similar products but this is the best I’ve found in terms of price and RDA of magnesium, so it’s a very effective way to boost your levels. I hope you like it if you do give it a try! Thanks for the comment, Blythe 🙂

Magnesium oil is amazing. It works beautifully for a lot of people with depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, muscle pain, etc. It helped me much more than I can express. As you well know, a deficiency in magnesium can cause these symptoms in and of itself!

I’ve not tried this particular brand but enjoyed your review. Just might give this one a look. Thanks 🙂

It’s wonderful it’s helped you, that’s so good to hear! You’re right, it can benefit people in a lot of ways, and conversely having low levels of it can cause a myriad of issues. It’s a good brand, it just depends on personal preference really as to what format you prefer (ie. massage with an oil or drink an oral supplement). Glad you enjoyed the review, thanks Holly! 🙂

I am so relieved to find out that this is massaged into the skin and not sprayed directly up the nose. I’m done with netti pots, which requires nasal cleansing. The Goodnight spray sounds great! Thanks so much for this very informative and well-structured review!

Yikes, up the nose spray… I don’t think I’d go for one of those! I had to Google ‘netti pots’, looks like an interesting contraption. Yes, this massages into the skin which is much more pleasant. I’m really glad you liked the review, thanks very much lovely! 🙂

I had no idea they did such a wide range of products. I swear by magnesium oil and the Crystal’s too for sleep aid and sore muscles it really gets in so quickly being applied transdermal.

They’re pretty good in terms of their range, which is fantastic because people have different preferences & what works for one person won’t necessary work for the next, so having choice is really important. I’m glad magnesium oil, and crystals, have been helpful for you, that’s brilliant! Thanks for sharing, Niamh 🙂

Fab review! First time on your blog. ( I’m from Blogging in Bed) I had been considering this. I have RA , I find pushing hard but I think I could get the hubby to help. I do Need the Mag .

It’s worth trying anything I think that could help; this might be good for muscles, and magnesium overall is brilliant for the body, very underrated. Do you take prescription meds for your RA? There’s also things like Voltarol (rub in cream) that can be good for some people with muscle & joint pain. I wrote about that a while ago, I should probably refresh the post soon. Thanks for stopping by, Lucy! xx

Better You Magnesium oil really works for muscular pains but I prefer their magnesium lotion as it doesn’t give my skin that tingling feeling.

Reply
InvisiblyMe April 12, 2019 - 4:24 pm

I’m glad you find the oil to work well. I must admit I’ve not had any tingling from this, so it hasn’t bothered me. It does say that over time if you do get tingling it should reduce as the skin/body gets more used to it. It really is personal preference isn’t it, which is why it’s great to have lots of options. Thanks for the comment, Petra! =]

Not at all, thank you so much for taking the time to read & comment, especially as how you’ve been feeling like me with forever ‘chasing your tail’! I hope it can be helpful; it depends which method you’d prefer, so I’d recommend Floradix for liquid to drink, and BetterYou for spray to rub into the skin =]
