Christmas Done & Dusted
After so much build-up, anticipation and stress levels through the roof, it’s all over. Christmas is done and dusted for another year. How was it for you?
My cat enjoyed basking around in the mountain of paper and shiny bows. Of course there were the inevitable arguments, but thankfully most of the problems happened before Christmas, leaving the day open to less grief.
One of the things my brother bought me was a pair of hiking boots. That’s right. Hiking boots. They are beautiful boots and I am grateful at such a generous gift, but my body can’t make it back from town without getting the bus let alone from a hiking trail. He has no concept of what I’m going through, and he never asks how I am, though anything I say is usually countered by something to do with how my problems would be cured if I started going to the gym or joined a book club or took up a new language or learned to kayak. I’ll leave that conversation there as it only serves to irritate me at the ignorance of some people.
The turkey worked out really well, and a few games of Jenga and some stand up comedy on DVD helped keep things light throughout the day.
On Boxing Day I popped into town for some fresh air & a change of scenery. It was a slow walk as I wasn’t feeling too healthy & my rib is still hurting like hell even now. Surprisingly, it was quite quiet. I think more intelligent of folk were at home, snuggled in the warm, doing their sales shopping online.
By 4am Wednesday morning there was a thick covering of snow. I dug my car out to go to the supermarket a little later on, and never had I been happier to get home as it was absolutely freezing!
From Christmas To The New Year
I’ve got to thinking a little about next year and reflecting on 2017. For now, I’d like to enjoy the quieter downtime after Christmas and save the heavy thinking for another day. Overthinking and stressing are certainly two things I have practiced like art forms, and my brain needs a break.
What about the blog? For the New Year I’d like to give things a little refresh. I’ll be buying a template so InvisiblyMe will be offline in the near future for a little while when I revamp things.
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, or were able to make the most of what they could. Whether you liked it, loved it or hated it, it’s all over with now. Make the most of the post-Christmas downtime because then it’ll be time to dust yourself off, reflect over the past year, and look to the New Year with some hope and positivity. If you’re not feeling it, then take heart – Things can be brighter, and I truly hope it is a healthier, happier 2018 for all of you!

Oh, the hiking boots is sad, and mad. Grrr! Some people just don’t get it, do they? Actually only this week I was thinking to myself how I would love to be able to go hiking again. Not having suitable footwear was not something I thought of. That would be the least of my troubles. To walk in the bush, surrounded my trees and streams and silence, not to mention that wonderful smell of the trees. Ah, I’m getting carried away but I guess it’s something to dream about, and now you can dream about it wearing your new hiking boots. As I said, Grrr! Some people! It’s the sort of thing my brother would do.
This made me chuckle, and I’m glad you can ‘get’ where I’m coming from with being a bit frustrated by the whole thing! But yes, we can dream…! Thank you for the comment Cate, it’s much appreciated 🙂
xx
I love reading you just being you. 🙂 Hope you’re feeling better soon.
Thank you lovely 🙂

Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas – a shame about the hiking boots though! Really looking forward to reading the newly styled blog – all the best for 2018!! Jen xx
Thank you Jen – here’s to hoping for a happier, healthier 2018 for you too! xx
I’m glad it was mainly peaceful for you :). Your cat must have had so much fun!!! I’ve been doing a lot of reflection this year. Thanks for passing on encouragement. 🙂
Reflection can be a really positive step, especially as we look forward to a brighter future and figure out what we want and where we want to go. Thanks for the comment 🙂
It sounds like you had a lovely Christmas (Burt’s Bees is great!). And put aside the hiking boots while you play with your cat instead 🙂 I’m sending much love as we head into 2018 xo
At least the cat can’t attack my feet while I’m wearing those boots! Hahah. Thank you for the lovely comment – all the best for a positive 2018 Christy! 🙂
xx

Thank you! All the best for a happy, healthy NY to you and Dizzy!! xx
Cute kitty! ? Looks and sounds like something my Tweeks would do if we let her. Although we didn’t open out gifts in the same room as her because she might have tried to eat it. Hope you feel better soon. ?
Hahah naughty cats! Thank you – I hope you had a lovely Christmas and can enjoy the downtime before the New Year 🙂 x
Yeah , I actually just caught my cat trying to be naughty. ? I did have a wonderful Christmas with my family and some friends and I hope you did as well.
Downtime with the family is always nice. Thank you for the warm wishes. I hope that you have some relaxing moments as well before the New Year. Have a good one! ??

i did. BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!!!! 100%!!!!!!!!
I also love reading about you being you. I envy your family Christmas. Even the parts that annoyed you. My family is either passed on or moved away so I miss those days of being around your family at holidays. Sounds like you guys had a nice time. I am so glad! Looking forward to seeing your new revamp! A Happy New Year to you!
I’m so sorry, I can only imagine how tough that is. Most families have their ups and downs but I know how lucky I am with my folks as we get on really well. I hope you have good memories to cherish of Christmas when you were younger with your family, and that you were still able to enjoy other aspects of the holidays this year. Sending a hug your way, and all the best for a healthy, happy, low-anxiety 2018! 🙂
You handled your Holidays like a pro. The anxiety of IT coming far exceeds what it should and the actual EVENT is not so bad… cheers! I went through the same process and continue to do so, will be working on that. ~Kim
That’s very true. Thanks Kim. Sending you all my very best for a happier, healthier 2018! 🙂

And to you!
Having a lovely week at the beach. Perfect Christmas.
A beach Christmas sounds amazing, glad you had a lovely time! 🙂
It was a Christmas present we gave to ourselves many years ago.
Better than being home on our own, and missing my family in England.
That’s very true. I hope you can likewise enjoy the NY, however you celebrate it (for me, it’s at home in the warm!) – I hope it’s a healthy, happy 2018! 🙂
and coming back to you.
Me too.
Love it. Look forward to seeing what the blog looks like after its revamp!
Thanks Nick! Sending you my best for a happy, healthy 2018! 🙂

I hope your Christmas and Boxing Day were awesome. I did a refresh of my blog and it looks great I think. How are you feeling going into the new year?
It does look great, and hopefully it makes you love blogging even more now! I think I’m feeling a bit apprehensive going in to the new year; being ill at the moment has sapped some of my positivity and motivation, but I’m sure I’ll get it back. After this year, I have more resolve for a brighter 2018. How about you? Are you doing anything to ring in the new year?
Sending you my very best for a healthy, happy 2018! 🙂
Aww, haha I love the pic with your cat among the wrapping paper and shiny bows. Too cute! ^_^
Looking forward to seeing the new look you come up with for the blog. 🙂
Thanks!
Wishing you all the best for a wonderful New Year! 🙂
