Thoughts On Life Age 90

I came across this article on The Insider and it made me smile, so I thought I’d share it here. It’s about a woman’s views on life at 90 years old.

This wonderful lady was on the Humans of New York’s Facebook page recently and gave a little quote on how she views her life. Okay, so it’s not advice per se, but it’s an eye-opener because it’s quite refreshing and may bring a smile to your face.

She said :

“I’m ninety but I feel like I’m fifty. I don’t take any medicine. I never complain. I’m just happy to be alive. I tell people: ‘Start with what you have, not with what you want.’

Every day I dance for two hours. And I’m still really interesting too. I love politics and literature. I love the sciences. And I’ve got a boyfriend named Alexander. We exchange books. I don’t even know how old he is.”

What Do You Want Your Thoughts On Life To Be At 90?

It makes you think. The small things we fret over, the regrets of things not done or said. What do you want your thoughts on life to be now and in the future?

I think it’s time to stress a little less and indulge in more good news. Focus on what you can, not what you can’t, and appreciate what you do have, not what you can’t or don’t have. Cultivate an attitude of gratitude and compassion, and spread a little kindness around.

If I made it to 90, while I’ll no doubt still be on medication, I’d love to be able to say I’m happy, interesting and have a boyfriend of an unspecified age! What would you like to be able to say at that age?

This was fabulous! I’m a few years younger, but I am on track to be like her when I’m 90! But I am hoping my husband will still be alive. Both of our mom’s are in their 90s. His mom will be 97 in March – she was an Army Lt. in WWII, serving as a Registered Nurse! Amazing woman. My mom is 94. She has now been widowed twice, each husband served in our military. Both of our dad succumbed to cancer in their 70s.

I’m so sorry about how cancer has had such an awful impact on your family, it’s such a tragically cruel illness. I’m glad your mum and your husband’s mother are in their 90s and have obviously led interesting, important and full lives – I’m sure your mum will be very proud of you and that you’ll reach your 90s and be posting something on the Internet (or whatever comes next in the scarily fast evolving world of technology!) giving an equally inspiration quote about life! 🙂 Thanks for sharing and commenting Debbie xx

Oh yes, I’m keeping up with technology! I don’t want to be left behind.
Yes, cancer is so cruel. We’re fighting it personally by our diets and exercise. It’s no guarantee but we’re doing what we can to fight it.

Love, love, LOVE this Caz! I hope when I’m her age I can say some of those things. I love that she dances for two hours a day and has a boyfriend. Thanks for sharing this!

‘Start with what you have, not with what you want’ is great advice for trying to live well with a chronic illness. I always try to focus on the now and what I can do about that rather than getting caught up with dwelling on the illness-free life I’d like! Thanks for sharing the thoughts of such an inspirational lady. My nan is 94 and she is a great inspiration to me, I just love her outlook on life xx

I’m sure your nan is an incredible woman, and I really do think that are a lot of the older generation we can learn a great deal from when it comes to our outlook on life, stress and day to day living. I totally agree with what you said about focusing on the now and how things currently are, rather than getting caught up in what-ifs and broken dreams and such (easier said than done, but incredibly important). Thanks for commenting Nat, glad you liked the article share 🙂 xx

This is friggin cute, there are so many people who are just constantly negative and it just goes to show being optimistic goes along way 🙂

I think optimism, unless you seem to have more of a natural inclination for it, can be hard to conjure sometimes, but it’s definitely worth it when you look at the impact of a positive outlook on your life, happiness & health! Thanks for the comment 🙂 x

That is really quite amazing now-a-days not to be on any medication — at 90! WOW!
