Mini Me Update : What’s Up This Weekend?

by InvisiblyMe

Hey everyone, happy Saturday! A little update on me, just to get the boring bit out of the way first with a mini me update.

Chest Infections & Rib Damage Hell

I’m still a rather flu-y & feeling generally rubbish but the chest infection is clearing fairly well having just finished the course of antibiotics. Bad news is that I’ve done something to my right rib this time. During the last chest infection a few months ago I pulled the muscles in my left rib and it was incredibly painful. It took all this time for it to heal and the pain to disappear.

Now, I’ve done my right rib in and it’s excruciating. I guess my body just wanted to even things out on both sides. It feels a little different to last time, like my lung is being crushed at the bottom constantly, then stabbed when I breathe, cough or move. I’ll mention it when I see the GP next week just to make sure it’s definitely a pulled muscle, as it feels like I’ve been hit by a baseball bat a few times then stuck with a pitchfork.

Weight Gain

[Possible trigger warning]  I’ve put on quite a lot of weight, which is perhaps more noticeable to me having been a bit underweight earlier this year after surgeries. I would like to say I’m feeling healthier and doing better for it, but I’m not and it’s probably a result of too much sugar and not moving as much as I would have liked due to being unwell.

Both weight loss and gain can be hard to manage, but harder still to accept and not let them affect you emotionally if you’re already feeling lousy about yourself. If you’re in a similar situation, be that through illness, emotional eating/an eating disorder, medication side-effects etc, then know that you’re not alone.

It’s a tough, rough road to walk, even when we know it shouldn’t be a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Beautiful Skies

The weather has been freezing and pretty miserable, but there have been some glimpses of pinky skies to appreciate. Check it out 🙂

Pretty or ominous? 🙂

Weekend Vibes

This weekend, I’d like to think I will start treating myself a little more kindly rather than disappearing down the rabbit hole of thinking too much (about the appointments I have next week, about whether I’ll need another stoma op, what I’m going to do next year, where to go from here in terms of work, what the heck I’m doing with my life in general).

I’m trying out proper painkillers today/tomorrow, which I usually avoid at all costs, but I know the pain is becoming a bit too much now. I’m going to treat myself hopefully to starting the second series of Stranger Things. I’m going to do some of the cleaning and vacuuming I’ve been putting off since having the flu/chest infection, and hopefully the painkillers will make this a little easier, otherwise you may hear me screaming from whichever part of the world you’re in!

My questions for you this weekend, as I’d love to hear how everyone’s doing!

1.  What’s one thing you are going to do to treat yourself this weekend?

2.  What are you proud of having done this week, however big or small?

Your photo is pretty! I hope you feel better soon! It is definitely hard to keep the spirits up when we are in pain or sick. Having both is so much harder! I appreciate your candid writing; my invisible illness is chronic migraines. I am going to a Yoga and Writing class today! That’s my treat to myself then back to whatever responsibilities I must attend to… keep writing!

I’m sorry you struggle with chronic migraines too, it’s not a fun thing to struggle with. I hope you enjoyed the yoga & writing glasses, I’ll follow your blog & hopefully learn a bit more if you write about them. Thank you for the get well wishes, and for taking the time to stop by & comment – have a good weekend! 🙂

I’m sorry to hear you’re still having a tough time of it. I hope things pick up a bit soon. I’ve got a cold again so I’m resting up and taking things easy this weekend. I’m proud that I managed to take myself for a short swim earlier in the week, even a small improvement in what I can do feels great! Take care and definitely treat yourself to Stranger Things 2 it’s sooo good, if completely terrifying at times! Xx

Congrats on the swim, I’d class that as a big deal so you should be proud! I’m just really sorry you’ve also got a cold again too, so make sure you do take things easy now & get some rest this weekend. Thanks for the comment Nat 🙂 xx

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that you aren’t feeling up to par… It’s so difficult with chronic illness… since “normal” isn’t ever great… so “sick” really knocks you down! Praying for you as soon as I push the “send/post” button for this comment. <3

Being ill with something on top of other health issues really can ‘take the stuffing out of you’. Thank you so much for your kind wishes – I hope you’re having a lovely weekend 🙂

I’m so sorry to hear you’re feeling unwell. It really can knock you, can’t it. I hope this next week and your appointments aren’t too difficult. One treat for the weekend? That would have to be a day off tomorrow. And something I’m proud of? That would be my son in his recent show, for doing his best even though he found it dreadfully dull. Hope you have a peaceful day tomorrow x

Thank you for your kind wishes, I really appreciate it. I’m glad your son did his best & got through it, that’s definitely a proud moment. I think a day off for you today sounds like just what the doctor ordered – enjoy it & relax! 🙂

I’m sorry to hear that you are suffering so much. The rib thing sounds awful. I know what you mean about yearning for your baseline-feeling bad, but normal(ish). I love it that you are so able to make your posts funny, even though you are feeling like crap.

I was really thin for most of my life, because of the Crohn’s disease. People who didn’t understand, thought I was anorexic. Over the past 15 years, I’ve put on 45 pounds. Started with major donut consumption. I hate feeling bad physically, and looking bad, as well. No fun.

This week I took a poem I wrote and edited it over a 2-3 hour period of time. I’m somewhat proud of this.

I have been treating myself to much too much. Ate 3 pastries, last night!

I hope that nothing is seriously wrong with your ribs. It seems you have enough to deal with already.
Hugs, W

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this, and for being so honest in sharing. I’m sorry you’ve gone through ups and downs with your weight too, it can be such a delicate balance and hard to manage when it swings from one to the next.

I definitely think you should be proud of your poem and editing, and I hope you enjoyed those pastries – I think part of the problem (mine at least) is when treats aren’t enjoyed, and guilt or similar gets in the way. You deserve treats, in whatever form!

Take care and have a restful Sunday 🙂

I hope you feel better soon!! Aw, sorry to hear that. *Hugs* The sky picture looks so beautiful!

As for your questions, I’m planning on watching a play tomorrow (Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde). It will be a nice break away from studying. 🙂 I’m also getting ramen with my friends after that. I’m proud that I was able to blog this weekend!

Thank you for the hugs – back at you! I hope you enjoy the play, that should be fab (and the ramen sounds tasty too)! Definitely think you deserve the break from studying and blogging 🙂

1. I have treated myself to rest all weekend, and might treat myself to some good weather outdoors today.
2. I am proud that in spite of feeling somewhat poorly all week, I am keeping my promise to drive my friend two hours to the airport. (My husband has thankfully offered to drive two hours back).

I hope you feel better soon!!

Thank you! And I’m glad you’ve treated yourself to some rest, and fingers crossed the weather stayed decent for you to enjoy some fresh air. I’m sorry you’ve been feeling poorly too, so you should definitely be proud of the long drive to help out a friend – rest up and sending you my best wishes for feeling better soon.xx

I miss seeing pretty sunsets like that on my commute home; it goes dark before I leave the office these days. Sorry to hear your right rib is causing you trouble – hope you’re on the mend soon <3 I made a banoffee pie this weekend, which was a nice end-of-the-week treat 🙂

Invisibly Me November 19, 2017 - 5:12 pm

It definitely gets dark early now, it’s a shame. Hopefully you’ll be seeing the after-work sunsets again before too long (there’s me wishing away the winter…) Thank you for the get well wishes – I’m glad you enjoyed your banoffee pie! I’ve never actually tried it – I guess I’m missing out 🙂

On the upside, I do get the pre-work sunrises at the moment which I’m rarely up early enough to see in the summer months! I’ve only ever had it a handful of times, so it’s definitely a real treat for me 🙂

Oh my! You handle your set backs with such grace….so it was hard to write our latest post about something as painless as headlights that don’t work properly! They are a safety issue and we’re hoping to find out how others are handling it. Isn’t that why we blog?
Otherwise we’re excited about heading back to be near our daughter, son in law and grandsons over the holiday season, through New Years!
Take care sweet one. You’re in my prayers for healing and wisdom for your GP!

Thank you so much Debbie, that means a lot. I hope there’s a reader out there that can share some useful experiences with you – the Internet is amazing for these kinds of purposes!
I’m glad you’re able to travel towards family over the festive season, that’s definitely something to be excited about & look forward to. Safe travels & I look forward to reading your next instalment 🙂

Such a pretty sky! Love sunset/sunrise photos so much! I hope you’re feeling a little better now, even though I am a bit late to comment on this, I did pretty much nothing the past weekend which was my treat! (Husband was away, so myself and doggie stayed all cuddled up in bed) best wishes, K xx

I’m glad you liked the picture! Aw, I think cuddles with the doggo and staying warm at home in bed sounds like a lovely way to spend the weekend. I miss my dog (he died a few years ago now, but I still miss the cuddles and how relaxing it can be to have a dog with you). Can’t believe it’s pretty much the next weekend already – hope you have a good one! Thanks for stopping by and commenting 🙂

I am so sorry you are not feeling better right now! I am glad that you are going to be kind to yourself 🙂 Since it is Monday I have the benefit of hindsight while answering your weekend questions. I treated myself to some reading time with a good book and I am proud of climbing a new v3 in the rock gym (and I attempted to v4s that I will get next week!), I hope.

Please feel better next week 🙂

InvisiblyMe December 12, 2017 - 5:50 pm

Congrats on the climbing! I hope you’re successful with the v4s soon – maybe you could take a photo so we can see what the climbing is like? 🙂
Thank you so much for your kind wishes – I’ve actually got yet another chest infection but picked up antibiotics and steroids yesterday so fingers crossed things will improve soon with that part at least.
Take care and have a lovely week,

I agree with you on the weight issue… it had been a disaster for me when I started hating myself for my increasing weight! But, a change in perspective is all that matters!

I’m sorry you’ve experienced the self-hate and emotional rollercoaster with weight gain too. We really should be kinder to ourselves, we’d never treat or talk to others the same way we do ourselves. Thanks for stopping by and commenting 🙂
