Home My Journey When You’re Feeling Pretty Rotten

When You’re Feeling Pretty Rotten

by InvisiblyMe

What do you do when you feel pretty rotten?

I had some problems Monday night, starting at about 2am. It started with niggling pain and discomfort, then became intense, across my tummy. I thought it was perhaps another stoma related obstruction or bowel kink because after that it got worse still to the point of being unbearable and I couldn’t stand up or barely move. It brought tears to my eyes. I resorted Tramadol, which I hardly ever do just because I didn’t want another A&E visit, and wished for it to be over. It lasted for hours, and I didn’t sleep a wink. A few days later, and things still aren’t quite right, though the excruciating pain went. I feel so uncomfortable, sick, I hurt, and I don’t quite know what’s wrong, I’m just hoping it gets better soon. Just to make me feel that bit more rotten, I’ve had a yucky cold – aka man flu – for the past week too. Still, it could be worse.

You know the days where you just feel rotten, exhausted, worried that something’s still not right but not knowing what to do to make it better, and generally wanting the world to go away for a while? Yep, feeling that right now. I’m still keeping busy-ish, because the world doesn’t go away; there are still day to day things to do, even when all you want is to crawl in to bed.

But it has made me all the more aware of how my body feels ‘normally’ (which isn’t great, but it’s a damn sight better than this) and more grateful for the things I can normally do (even if restricted, again, it’s a damn sight better than this). Sometimes it takes feeling even worse or having a health scare or even something big going on around you to be able to take a step back, take stock of what’s important, find the elusive silver linings and actually start being gentle with yourself.

How are you all feeling at the moment my lovelies? I hope that wherever you are, whatever you’re up to, that you are doing okay. x

Caz

I hope you manage to make some time to rest this weekend too, it’s important not to get burnt out and end up feeling more ‘meh’ as a result. I hope you feel a bit brighter soon too. Thank you 🙂

I’m so sorry you’ve felt so bad recently, it sounds horrendous. But l also love how you’ve still found a silver lining in that it helps you to appreciate the better days. I know what you mean. Just keep looking after yourself and I hope you feel better soon xx.

I always speak of “my normal”. Being a lot worse makes you really appreciate what your normal pain level is. I hope you get back there. The last couple months I am dealing with what I believe is going to be my new normal, I guess. Left hip is not going back to the old normal anymore. Oh well.

Sometimes I have terrible unknown pain, but I don’t go in to see what it was if it goes away in a few days. Don’t you find that sometimes people with chronic pain go in to the doctor even less than other people? Either that or they are constantly there.

I hope you are back to your normal soon. 🙂 🙂

I’m really sorry about your hip, Rita, and also that you can relate so well to new normals and pain. I agree with the doctor too, I think some of that may be scepticism and knowing that a lot of the time they can’t/don’t help, and we learn to adapt and figure out what to do ourselves instead. Thank you so much for the kind wishes and for stopping by to comment. Just want to wish you the very best, and I hope you get some rest this weekend.x

Sending you good vibes & well wishes.

When in doubt music can be great medicine, or at least
let your mind drift for a short while. I always recommend
nice deep breathing for a few minutes which can help too.

Ah yes, good music really is therapeutic and up-lifting. I did a lot of deep breathing on Monday when the excruciating pain set in and it made me realise that I don’t pay much attention to proper, healthy breathing very often. Thanks for the kind wishes and for stopping by to comment. I hope you have a good weekend 🙂

This is a good reminder to take note of how our body feels and respond to it, caring for ourselves, when something feels “not quite right” xx Do take care <3

I think that’s really important, to know what’s ‘norma’ for you and when something isn’t quite right. Thanks Christy – I hope you’re doing okay, and have a lovely weekend 🙂

Praying you feel “normal” again. It’s no fun to feel horrible AND get the flu. Poor thing.

Firstly I hope you are feeling a bit back to yourself now.
This is so true. When I’m having a bad day, frustrated with things I can’t do, or in pain that I can’t control. It’s not until that has subsided that I realise and appreciate what I can do. And what a good day it.
Thank you for writing this.

I would say I’m glad that someone can understand where I’m coming from, but at the same time I wouldn’t wish bad days, frustrations and pain on anyone. I’m glad you liked the post and thank you for your comment 🙂 xx

I’m lucky in that at the moment I don’t have too many bad days. Frustrating ones maybe, but then also I’ve always had SMA, so I know no other life.
