Home My Journey An Artiste or Crafter I Am Not!

An Artiste or Crafter I Am Not!

by InvisiblyMe

So, I’ve had some pretty pants days recently. I don’t know how else to describe them; feeling awful about myself, being exhausted yet restless, unable to concentrate or focus, feeling let down and left out. I’ve not been too good with ticking off the March goals as a result, which has made me feel a bit annoyed with myself too. With that said and done, I have tried to compromise on the arty / crafty goal to ensure I do something here and get out of my comfort zone a little.

I’ve done two things :

1.  Whilst I haven’t done any new ‘artwork’, I have dug out my sketches and started to scan them all in. I’m not good at art. I can shade and colour reasonably well, but I can’t get ideas from my head on to paper. I’m not good with perspective or sizing. I can copy and use inspiration if it’s in front of me, but even then it’s a process I find very difficult as I don’t have what you’d call any kind of natural talent for drawing. I don’t share my stuff and I’m quite scared about posting any up now to feel as though it’s being judged, but I want to share and get out of my comfort zone. Here are just a couple. I’m not sure if it’s interesting to see any of these sketches I’ve done; would you like to see more? If so, I’ll post more up in future.

2. I was inspired and encouraged by Nat’s post over on Surviving Life’s Hurdles. She’s done a great tutorial here for some butterfly crafts, which includes a PDF template you can print out. After discovering the some of my paints are now usable and the rest are rather limited in shades (and didn’t produce particularly pretty butterflies!) I came up with a cheat option : using wrapping paper cut-offs! I have lots of wrapping paper scraps and left-overs so it’s been a good use for them. It kept me busy for a little while cutting various flutterbies out and I quite like them!

Getting creative can be a great way to express, calm and nurture yourself.

I’d love to know what you think or whether you’ve been up to any arty / crafty stuff recently! x

Thanks Liz! Let me know if you’re still having problems with your printer – if you send me the details I’ll see if I can offer any suggestions 🙂

I just replied regarding the printer on my chit chat post, which I seen first, so my printer details are there. But I’m going to continue using my usb anyway. It’s a pain when re-setting printer to key everything again, as it takes ages with the controls on the printer when using alphabet. Thank you for the offer though. ?

An artiste and crafter you are indeed! If you are making and creating I would always say you’re an artist/crafter and yes I would love to see more! I think it’s great that you put yourself out of your comfort zone, it can be so hard to do but usually the benefits are really worth it. I did the same by posting the butterfly tutorial on my blog and worrying about how it would be received. Just seeing how it has helped to inspire you and also how you’ve really made it your own has made it so worthwhile though! I’m sorry you’ve had some rubbish days lately and I hope you have a better time of it soon. Keep on expressing yourself and enjoying being creative. xx

Thank you lovely. I’ll post up some more drawings in future then, perhaps that’ll encourage me to edge back to drawing a little when I feel up to it. I hope you’ll do more crafting posts and tutorials as you have a great way of laying them out and making them encouraging to read. I hope your week is treating you well so far! x

Your’re not good at art? Shit, what am I? I can’t even draw a stick man. You’re really talented. I’m sorry you haven’t been feeling well. You can talk to me if you need, okay? xx

Hah, I probably should have stated a bit better just how frustrated I get with drawing (I-could-throw-something-out-the-window kind of frustrated). Thank you for your kind words, and the same goes to you about the talking. I think at the moment I just drive myself crazy over thinking things and the pain is so incessant that it’s impossible to ignore. I’m sure things will improve in time… I hope you’re doing okay Cheila! 🙂

I’m fine, dear. Well, if it makes you frustrated that’s a different story. You should not push yourself, it should come naturally!

That’s very true. I think the ideas are there, but it’s the same with writing or going out some days, sometimes my brain is cotton and my body just doesn’t want to know and then when I push myself I just get frustrated when it doesn’t go well. x

I love your sketch of Sonic – it reminds me of all the hours I spent playing Mario Olympic Games! I did Art to A-Level but have barely sketched or painted a thing since; I was never any good at people, but used to like drawing random objects and doodling patterns. It would be lovely to see more of your drawings 🙂 Often little creative projects can be just enough to give you a pick-me-up when life’s not treating you so kindly.

Thank you, Rosie! Perhaps you should dig out some pencils and give some doodling a go, see what happens! 🙂 x

Perhaps I’ll have to devise an end of term creative project for myself 🙂 It’d be nice to get back into drawing, all just a case of finding the time!

Your art looks great for someone who says they’re not artistic! I also can’t get my ideas to paper but am very good at copying others’ artwork, which isn’t really a good thing lmao. Your art looks promising, I think with more practice you’d do amazing 🙂
I have never taken into crafts. No matter how careful I put a craft project together, it always looks messy 🙁 Yours are pretty good, though! Seriously, I think if you spend a little more time on practicing you’d greatly improve!

I have several separate pages with my coloring and crochet. I feel good about them right up until I hit post then immediately feel like people will think my projects are ridiculous. And, by the way, love your work.

Way to go for sharing your art. I agree with Natalie. If you’re creating and making you’re an artist and crafter. I shared some of my journaling art a few weeks ago on my blog and was really nervous about it. It’s nice to see someone else sharing their’s.

Cute drawings! I can never get the angle of eye and chin so if I draw people they all have to be in profile..lol…:)x

I agree with you, getting creative is an amazing way to calm and nurture yourself. I did some fondant figurines for Easter and I was so relaxed and happy when I finished. I will do that more often. x

Those are fantastic! I love the Sonic one. My son wants to be a cartoonist when he grows up and he would appreciate that one. Please continue to share, I love to look at people’s art.

Those look beautiful, despite what you said I see a budding artist within you, I’m pretty certain with time and practice you can become a truly master the art of drawing (who am I kidding, you have already!). I’d like to see more of your art, they are truly wonderful :-).

That is incredibly kind (and perhaps far too generous!) of you to say – thank you! I’ll make sure to post a few more up soon 🙂

Whatever helps take your mind off your troubles! I can’t draw but I like to fiddle with a camera and a few words. 🙂
