Is That A Grizzly Bear On Your Shoulders? Find Out How Much Your Worry Weighs

Disabled Persons Railcard (2)

I spotted this recently and curiosity got the better of me. It’s intended as a bit of fun, though I would add that worry and stress are far from laughable; in fact, they can be destructive to your mental and physical health. While those with anxiety may be anticipating to score highly on this tool, you’ll also know that worry is only one part of it; anxiety is something that burrows under the skin, often for no reason other than because it can. This is also incredibly generalised and highly inaccurate. With that in mind, let’s get on to the question at hand :

How Much Does Your Worry Weigh?

This tool was developed, strangely enough, by the insurers LV=.

5a+Y+T = X   This suggests how much someone’s stress may physically weigh.

a = general worry across all aspects of life

Y= total level of other worries in each aspect of life (ie. money and family.)

T= total time spent worrying

X= weight, as expressed by some real world object or animal to make it a bit easier to imagine!

They found that the average weight of worry is around 496lbs (225kg), which is similar to the weight of a pig, panda bear or lion.

They also found, when surveying 2,000 people, that money is one of the biggest sources of worry for the average Brit. So while money may not be the fast track route to happiness, it certainly seems to be a fast track route to worry and stress.

On my second attempt at this a couple of minutes ago, my worry was the weight of a polar bear at 54.8 stone. No wonder my shoulders and joints hurt. I think we all carry around with us too much worry and stress.

Let me know what you’re carrying on your shoulders.

I’m pretty lucky I think in this department. I’ve got a good job, steady and well paid and really don’t have any home issues to worry about. That’s not to say we don’t all have unexpected stress now and then so definitely a useful tool.

I’m rather lucky when it comes to worry. I’m retired, my house is paid for, my children have jobs, I have good health and so much more. That said, the politics of today drive me crazy.

I will have to check that out and see…I am a little afraid too though. Between Donald Trump, five kids and waiting on my mammogram results I may be carrying around an apartment building.

Sounds like you’ve probably got an apartment building on each shoulder. All the very, very best for your mammogram results, do you know roughly how long you’ve got left to wait for them?

There really are quite a lot of animals in this quiz! So we have people on here carrying an octopus, a polar bear and a pig on our shoulders… I think some of us need to de-stress a little 🙂
