Dry or irritated skin can be a result of numerous things, from health conditions to stress to environmental factors. I tend to have dry skin more in winter, irritated skin more in summer, and always end up reaching for creams come the warmer weather so it’s not as noticeable when wearing short sleeves or a skirt. Calmurid Pro wasn’t a brand I had come across previously but I gave this one a try.
While I don’t have extreme dry skin, I have nonetheless found it very effective and it’s one that gets good reviews from many with more severe skin issues. It’s one I’d say is worth giving a go if you have dry, irritated or sensitive skin, or you want a richer body moisturiser.

Calmurid Pro, from Galderma, produce a range of lotions designed to, as the tagline suggests, ‘rule unruly skin’. The Body Lipolotion is one of these, and comes in a rather minimalistic white box with a fushia-coloured top. My first impression was that it seemed quite formal, one of those more expensive-looking lotions or something you’d get from a specialised brand on prescription. It’s worth noting this is easily available to be purchased over the counter at Boots and Lloyds Pharmacies, and on Amazon too, no prescription needed.
The box tells us a few things about the lotion, what it contains, how to use it and what it’s designed to do. Inside, you’ll find a chunky white plastic bottle, echoing the same design as the box, with a translucent twist-top lid. This has a label, one of those you can peal back to reveal more information underneath, with further details on the product. It’s not an overly appealing design but it feels modern and professional, and you get the sense of it being a high quality product.
… Who It’s Designed For …
This product is suitable for both adults and children. It’s designed for dry to very dry skin and/or sensitive skin, and is for daily use. It’s been developed with dermatologists, which is reassuring to know. I would say, having looked at the claims and benefits of urea and having used it myself, that it’s good for general use as well as those with specific issues. For instance, if you have dry, tired, thin, itchy, tight skin, or just want to ensure your skin looks and feels its best, this would be suitable.
… What Calmurid Pro Claims …
The Body Lipolotion is essentially a moisturiser, but it works by using a ‘rich combination of lipids’ that form a ‘protective barrier’ on the skin. With 4% urea, a ‘natural moisturiser’, it ‘increases the water content in the skin’.
There is ‘no addition of colourants’, which is good to know.
The lipids are one important part, to form the ‘protective barrier’, and the urea is the second. Urea is a natural moisturiser in the skin and is important in taking good care of it. It hydrates by retaining water in the skin, ‘softens and exfoliates dead skin cells’, soothes, and ‘improves the skin barrier replenishment’. When applied to the skin, it can ‘reduce scaling’, increase moisturisation, relieve itching and improve the look and feel of skin overall. So, quite the wonder ingredient! It makes sense, however, and it’s natural and straightforward. I like that we’re not bombarded with stupid chemicals that you’ve never heard of before and struggle to pronounce. It feels more genuine, grounded and logical.

… Calmurid Pro In Use …
This is quick and straightforward to use, as you would expect. Twist the lid to remove it and squeeze out a little lotion, bearing in mind the bottle isn’t a squeezy bottle. I actually found it decent enough at dispensing the right amount of lotion, not too much nor too little, so whilst I initially thought I would have preferred something like a pump mechanism, this works just fine. The first thing I noticed was that the Lipolotion was thinner than I had anticipated. Perhaps it’s just associating moisturisers, particularly heavy duty ones, with thick and creamy textures, but I was thinking it would be less runny than it was. Thankfully it’s not too thin, just not as thick as I’d first assumed it would be. I then came to appreciate this as it made it easy to apply and meant less was required per application. The lotion doesn’t have any particular scent so I’ve found it to be non-offensive, there’s just a slight sweetness to it which I find very pleasant.
The slightly thinner consistency means this is perhaps a little easier to apply to the skin, especially if you’re covering large areas. It glides on smoothly and absorbs reasonably quickly, so I don’t have to wait too long before putting clothes back on or going about whatever I’m doing. I haven’t found it to be greasy, but I notice the skin is immediately smoother and softer, without being sticky or unpleasant.
I’ve also used a bit of this on my arms, in one area in particular when the skin was dry, and had been a bit irritated by plasters. Only small amounts of the lotion were required per application, and I used it two or three times a day for two days, perhaps three. It’s easy enough to do and I don’t find anything off-putting about using it, so I have no excuse to put a little on here and there as I can be pretty poor bothering to moisturise. I found that the areas which were dry or irritated has been calmed, soothed and smoothed; skin felt soft and you couldn’t tell that only the other day it was quite red, a bit sore and very dry.
I’ve used this on my legs for dry skin there, and some may find they have almost shiny/scaly dry skin on their legs, and I’ve found this to work very effectively at improving the condition of my skin.
… Cost …
I’m a bit on the budget side when it comes to my purchases, so the price of this does seem a little steep to me. That said, similar products designed to be hard-hitting when it comes to dry skin are also on the higher side of the price band, so this doesn’t appear to be over-priced. The good thing is that whilst the initial cost is higher than your average moisturising lotion, a little does go a long way, and a 200ml bottle will likely last a very good length of time. I
f you find Calmurid Pro particularly effective for your skin, then I’d say it’s reasonable enough value for money as you can just use the one product to get the benefit you need, rather than continuing to shop around for products that don’t work for you or having to combine different ones to get the same effect.
… Overall …
I have been really pleased with this lotion, both in terms of its general usage and effectiveness. It’s a decent investment if you want to care for problematic or dry skin, or just want to increase the condition and overall moisturisation of your skin.
