Mini Me Update [ 24/06/2018 ]

by InvisiblyMe
A range of colourful digitally drawn arrows pointing upwards with the word 'update' in the middle.

Hellooooooo! How is everyone doing this sunny Sunday afternoon?  It’s sunny in my small spot of the UK so I hope you’re getting a little extra Vitamin D where you are, too. This will be a fairly short update, and a small apology for not being around too much recently due to having a lot on and generally being unwell. Without any further ado, here’s my self-absorbed Mini Me Update!

Health / Life Updates

I’ve had a rough week in terms of health with a few days having been lost to migraines. It has infuriated me no end feeling so rough and exhausted, then unable to do anything with a migraine in full swing, so I’m glad it’s starting to lift today and I can tackle a few things I’ve needed to do.

I’m still loving my Levoit air purifier, and I’m using it in conjunction with a fan from time to time in my room to help with heat, breathing and headaches. I’m also in the middle of an excellent Greg Hurwitz novel, I See You. It has just the right balance of mystery, intrigue and sarcasm that makes me wish I could keep reading for hours!

Stress is still something I’m going for a world record for, apparently. I do it to myself, I don’t even need anything of particular importance to stress about half the time. I still hugely overthink and over-plan and I know my anxiety levels haven’t been well managed by myself. Being ill, especially with migraines, also means a change in medications, so it’s perhaps not surprising things have been somewhat rocky. My uncle has also died and despite him being unwell for some time, it is painfully sad. I’ll be driving to the funeral this upcoming week, and I’ve booked a b&b for my mother and I as it’s a long drive (4hrs with a short break). It’s frustrating that nothing really helps with the pain and that taking anything stronger, such as Tramadol or Codeine, isn’t something you can do when you’re a driver. Does anyone else struggle with longer drives?

Since my pre-op assessment, I’ve had a date through for my surgery (stoma revision, to ‘straighten things out’ a little) which will be July 9th, all being well. I’m still debating cancelling this and booking a one way ticket for a holiday in Spain. Anybody want to join?

Iron Woman

My blood results from my pre-op assessment showed my iron was low, which wasn’t a surprise to me as I was iron deficient back when I was 19, and the tablet supplements caused problems. As I can’t take oral iron now, and I needed a boost quickly prior to surgery, my GP called the IV team. Unlike any other appointment I’ve probably ever had, this was super quick and they fitted me in within a matter of days. The team were lovely and my first ever iron infusion went pretty well without any side-effects at the time.

The only downside was that for 2 days afterwards I felt totally whacked, more so than usual. This exhaustion then eased up to my usual level after that. Apparently it can take 10 – 14 days to feel the benefits, if you do at all. The infusion itself was painless and straightforward, with the appointment lasting around an hour and a half in total (answering questions and going through the procedure verbally first, then 15 minutes for the infusion itself, and then being observed for about half an hour afterwards prior to driving home).

A photo of my arm with the cannula in for the infusion.

Pretty Potty!

The pottery that my mother & I made as part of a gift for her birthday from my brother was ready to collect earlier than anticipated. Our abominations works of art have been glazed, but the inside of my apple, for some unknown reason wasn’t, so I took to it with some clear nail varnish. No rude comments as to what my half an apple looks like inside. These are going straight to the curators of London galleries, who, I am almost certain, will want to snap these bad boys up!

the pottery my mum made, one is a red pot with a flower on and the other is a pink pig.
Mother’s Pig – Ironic given her love of bacon.
A photo of the pottery I made on my beed. One is like a half apple, created as a dish. The other is a small pot in white with red polka dots.
My half apple – Ironic given my fear of eating apple skin with a stoma!

Weather Update : Sunshine!

That’s right. Rare sunshine is hitting parts of the UK – get it while you may!  I walked to the local park today to write a little, call my ex for a little chit-chat, and people watch while probably burning my legs. If I can stop my atrocious over thinking, I’ll go for a little day trip tomorrow and try to get a change of scenery for my mother and I prior to more tests for me and then the the trip for my uncle’s funeral this upcoming week.

The thing I don’t like about this is that sense of mad panic, the ‘need’ to make the most of it because you know it’ll likely be washed out with coldness and rain in the blink of an eye. Please remember to do whatever you can, not what you feel you ‘should’. Treat yourself well, stay hydrated, and enjoy the small but glorious things that you can.

A photo of the nearby park, showing the green water in the lake and lots of tall green trees to either side.

I hope that however you have been, and whatever you have been up to, that you are okay. Just keep swimming… Have a positive, healthy-as-possible week ahead!

Caz

I’m glad you’re feeling better and I’m sorry about your uncles passing. Sad indeed.

Hubby and I are not ones for long drives anymore either. Four hours is our limit and then it’s time to stay overnight and start again tomorrow. It’s age for us.

Have a blessed Sunday and enjoy the sunshine. ♥

We stayed overnight too, as there’s no way I could face driving back (just as well as I had a migraine and threw up not long after the wake). I’m glad at least I’m not the only one who doesn’t appreciate long drives! Thank you for the lovely comment and I hope you and hubby are both keeping well 🙂

Now that is way too generous a statement about me being so strong (you should see me at home being an emotional, highly anxious & stressy wreck!) Thank you so much for your kind wishes & beautiful comment – I hope you’re doing okay, Alys, and that you have a good weekend ahead!  ♥

” Does anyone else struggle with longer drives?”
Abso-bloomin-lutely! So much so that I no longer do them. I dread anyone getting really sick because I don’t know how on earth I’m going to be able to deal with that.

Sending you positive vibes through the ether, and lots of love, from me in my corner, to you in yours.
I wish I could reach through the screen and just hug you …. but they haven’t invented that yet, so… (((((Caz))))) <— that will have to do until they do.
Stay positive, my fabulous blogging friend ~Cobs. xxx

Lovely to hear your update Caz! You have been through a lot and I hope that everything goes well on the 9th – though I would love to go to Spain with you if you decide to change your mind and rebook the op 😉 . Your pottery comments made me giggle – I can’t say anything as I am the MOST unartistic person you ave ever met! Hope that you are feeling better now after you infusion and I am really sorry to hear about your uncle. Take care of yourself – lots of love xxx

Does that mean you’re recommending I cancel the op and go to Spain? Sam has also commented to say she liked this idea, so just say the word and the three of us can go!!
I bet my backside that you’re not the most unartistic person, Jen!
Thank you for the lovely comment and I hope you’re doing okay this week, and that you have a relaxing weekend to look forward to. Caz xx

When you say you love my idea of cancelling my surgery & heading to Spain, does that mean it’s a good idea and that I should do it? All I need is a nod and I’m doing it, I just need that little push in the right direction!! 😉
Thank you for the kind wishes and lovely comment, Sam. I hope you are doing okay and that there’s a relaxing weekend ahead waiting for you xx

Caz, I’m sorry to hear your migraines have been giving you such a rough time. They make it almost impossible to do anything, don’t they?

My condolences on the loss of your uncle. I hope you did okay with the trip for his funeral; I know it must have been hard with the way you were feeling.

Your pottery looks great, even if you did have to paint the inside of your apple with nail polish. I love painting ceramics, even though I haven’t done it for a while. I don’t do much of the stuff you have to glaze and have fired; I just do decorative things, but you’ve inspired me to get out my paints again.

Hugs to you sweet friend!

I agree, migraines really knock you around & make doing anything almost impossible. I’ve had 6 in a row in the space of a week now with nasty headaches in between, so I’m hoping that’s my lot. Thank you for the condolences, that’s very kind; the service was beautifully done, and although incredibly sad, I think he would have liked it and the photographs shared on the big screen while his favourite song played.
I definitely think those paints of yours need to come back out – I’d love to see what you choose to paint, Terri!
Thank you so much for the lovely comment – I hope your week has been positive and that you have a relaxing weekend ahead. xx

I’m sorry you also struggle with stress, it can be a vicious cycle to manage. You’re right in saying that surrounding yourself with uplifting influences and people can help. Thanks for the comment & I hope you have a great weekend, Sophie 🙂

Hi Caz,

I’m sorry about your uncle. Also because of your migraines. It is very hard to be positive when something hurts you..As you said it was a sunny day, which is wonderful. Try to focus only on that positively. I am glad that you start your post with that observation.I wish you the best Caz

Much love

Thank you – the funeral was beautifully done, albeit painfully sad.
With migraines, well, I don’t cope too well! I try to do small things to help (keeping cool, ice eye mask, 4Head stick, lots of water) just to make me feel not quite as awful but when it fully hits there’s not really anything to do but lie down and ride it out. Sumatriptan is the one prescription med that is effective (have you tried that?) but I try to use it sparingly. Hope you’re doing okay and thanks for the comment xx
