Quick Quote : Going With The Flow
Life should be touched. Not strangled. You’ve got to relax, let it happen and times, and at others move forward with it.
Ray Bradbury.
I was thinking the other day about how sometimes we can override our brain and bodies telling us one thing, and keep pushing. We can often want something a certain way or want to do something we had planned, but then illness or otherwise gets in the way. We can want control over our lives, our bodies and the world around around to the point where we’ve got ourselves in a stranglehold.
Going With The Flow Isn’t Always Easy
Sometimes, we need to learn to relax a little to life. To “go with the flow”, allow things to unfold naturally, to acquiesce to what our body needs, to find a degree of acceptance. This isn’t to say accept the way things are in totality, give up on trying or simply float through life without care, direction or effort. This is just about not being quite so focused on the outcomes and stressing so much along the way as we grapple for control.
By letting go a little, we can free ourselves of some stress and anxiety. We can allow ourselves to be a little kinder to ourselves. We can open ourselves up to new thoughts, new ideas and new experiences if we stop always trying so hard and take a step back from needing control.

Yes! I most definitely agree! Great quote too ?xx
Thanks! It’s a fab quote, isn’t it? 🙂

Wonderful post Caz! I especially like what you said about not having to be so focused on the outcome. Sometimes we miss the best parts of our lives because we’re so focused on the end results that we don’t take time to enjoy the journey. Blessings to you!
That’s so true, we can focus on the past or future and miss the present, weighed down with stress & worry. Thanks for the great comment, Terri! x
Helpful post
Thanks, glad you think so! 🙂
Caz, you are so right, the stress and anxiety just isn’t worth it. Being too inflexible is just a recipe for disaster! Xx
They’re not worth it (though sometimes I feel I’m stuck in the cycle and continue around with stress & anxiety even though I know better!) Becoming more flexible is definitely something I think we all have to work harder at with invisible/chronic illness, because our health issues always know how to throw spanners in the works! Thanks for the comment Nat 🙂
Learning to go with the flow is one of the best things we van ever do for ourselves. Great article Caz!
🙂 Well, for some the whole idea of letting go causes stress. I feel – for me, as if there needs to be a balance.
That’s true, letting go can cause stress in itself, even if the outcome is less exhaustion and anxiety from carrying it all with us constantly. I agree with balance, and it’s something I tend to try to live my life by, not that it always works, but it’s usually the goal. Thanks for the comment 🙂
Excellent! Just excellent!~Kim
Thanks Kim, glad you liked it! x
I especially appreciate two encouragements in your closing — learning to be kinder to ourselves, and becoming more open to new thoughts, ideas and experiences.
I’m glad you liked the post – thanks for taking the time to read & comment, Kath 🙂
Love that quote, and I absolutely agree. Great post.
Glad you like it, Gemma 🙂
Our world is so high strung and stressed out no wonder we are looking for ways to simplify it. Way too many people are going through things that were unimaginable years ago. Everyone needs a break.
So very true. I think we all the ways advances in things like technology are seen to simplify life, we’ve ended up complicating it and adding far too much to our plates to deal with when work, body image, money, and everything is also thrown into the mix. Thanks for the fab comment, Tony!
The Great Kenny Rodgers said,
“You’ve got to know when to hold ’em. Know when to fold ’em. Know when to walk away. And know when to run. You never count your money. When you’re sittin’ at the table. There’ll be time enough for countin’ When the dealin’s done”
🙂
Very similar in mindset
I love it! I’ve heard the lyrics before (The Gambler..?) but it’s great to see them written out like this. Definitely very apt – thanks for sharing! 🙂
I think full control over our life is too tall an order for most people and often leads to frustration. Who needs it?
Definitely can lead to a lot of frustration. Even though letting go of some of that need for control and ‘going with the flow’ can be incredibly hard, and may be something many of us need to consistently work on, surely it’s healthier in the long run and less exhausting and stressful. Thanks for the comment 🙂
Hi Caz,
great post and I agree with you.You know, we think we don’t have a time for ourselves. But when we get sick, do we have a time to get treated ? Of course . That is irony, right. I ask people , do you have a time to pour fuel into your car when you go on the road. !? It is the same with our body.We must have a time 🙂
Thank you
That is a very good point and a helpful way of looking at it (like fuel in your car). Thank you for the great comment Ben 🙂
Yes! I like this quote!
If I had a nickel for overtime I overthought, overdid or stressed over things that were out of my control… That’s how relatable this post is for me. In the recent year I have been working on letting go and freeing myself of of stress and anxiety.
It’s a hard one to let go of it and overthink/over stress things less. I’m sorry that you can relate so much, but I know it’s possible to free yourself of the added stress and anxiety over time, you can do it! For me personally, I think it’s going to be a hard process and something I need to work on every day, bit by bit. Thanks so much for stopping by to comment 🙂
I totally agree 🙂 A timely reminder as I’ve been doing a lot of resting this week when my body has needed it x
