Weekend Catch-Up : Helloooo September!

by InvisiblyMe

Hello to September, and hello to you lovely lot! How has August been for you? For me, I’d like to wipe it out and start again; it hasn’t been a good one. Here’s to a healthier, happier, brighter new month for us all!

I thought I’d just do a little catch-up so if you need something to help you doze off for a few minutes then please keep reading! 🙂

Little treats

Considering I only spotted this offer the other day and posted it on my Facebook page, I’m amazed to find my order has arrived already!

Better than half price Body Fantasies sprays at Superdrug – £1.50 (usually £3.99) ? Lots of fragrances to choose from, they smell goooorgeous & the scent lasts really well. I’ve gone for the Twilight Mist & Pink Vanilla Kiss ones with free delivery. These can be great for your confidence & give you a little mood lift ?️? Oh, and I couldn’t resist a bath soak either because it may be good for my pulled rib muscles!

I won a blog giveaway!

The lovely Liz at MyWellBeingAndLearningJourney did a giveaway recently and I was one of the lucky two drawn. Love my mindfulness book that came in the post yesterday – thank you Liz!

I got sick

You may have seen the post on my blog’s Facebook page. I picked up a nasty chest infection, ended up in hospital on Sunday to get an out of hours appointment as I couldn’t breathe. Came home with a bag of drugs. Turns out the killer pain in my left rib is from pulled muscles; silly me never really thought you could even pull the rib muscles inside your chest (as opposed to those underneath). The inhaler and steroids have helped take the edge off, and I’ve got another day of antibiotics left. I’m taking the codeine very sparingly, but having hardly slept for 7 days taking them last night so I could actually lie down without my rib screaming quite so intently was close to heavenly.

The intro to Pain Management session

My rheumatologist referred me to physio, which I’ve recently started, and pain management. This week I had the appointment for the Introduction, which was a group session of about 5 of us, though most came with a partner or family member. I asked to sit on my own like Billy no mates because of my chest infection as I felt like I was potentially contaminating the room! The intro lasted about 90 minutes and I’ll admit that some of it felt like taking a trip back to high school when they wrote on the white board and asked us to call out what pain meant to us, what we associate with it, how chronic pain affects lives etc. They told us a bit about the services offered, namely either an 8 week group course or one to one sessions with one of the specialists, and what would happen next. There’s no pressure – you either sign up for an individual assessment, where you and the team figure out what may help you, or you don’t. I liked that they didn’t make anyone feel pressured and appreciated that the Pain Management Programme isn’t for everyone. I’ve set up my assessment but as the rheumatologist already said to me – ‘You know it all already, and you could counsel someone else in all the tools and what to do and how to help themselves, you just can’t seem to apply it to yourself’. We’ll see what they suggest when this know-it-all-hypocrite with doctor-heal-thyself syndrome turns up!

I’ve also… Had a mini-meltdown (okay, not so mini…) but then I managed to turn it into productivity and a little rest, so I’m feeling a little better.  I still feel rocky, so if you’re going through tough patches too then please know you’re not alone. I’ve had other challenges at home to deal with. I’ve written letters and worked on a few things pertaining to my first op that went pear-shaped. I’ve done all of the boring / routine / ‘normal’ things around the house, emails, shopping, etc. Won’t bore you to tears with that. But sometimes the boring and the normal are good; you appreciate them when you’re not able to do them because you’re unwell or are in hospital, for instance, so I try to make the most of the little things like this.

I still hate the British weather

It’s now September and I’m hoping the sunshine makes some kind of return in the next two weeks. I resorted to the two-cardigans-jumper-jacket combination I favour of the winter months when I went out earlier. It’s cold. Then you get the random moment you leave the house like the Michelin Man and the sun comes out… suddenly you could fry steaks off your face because it’s roasting. The minute you take the coat off, it’s back to rain and chills and glum clouds. Of course, it’s hard to moan and not feel guilty when there are such terrible floods in Asia and of course Houston. But, moaning is something we Brits can do quite well, especially where the weather is concerned. That said, there was a beautiful sunrise earlier that I wanted to show you.

Have yourselves a restful weekend whatever you’re up to! For today, I’m trying to be a bit productive but I may have to attempt bed rest tomorrow for my left rib muscles because they are screaming at me!

You should give them a try, they’re lovely! Felt a bit naughty getting two but at that price I’d kick myself if I didn’t. Treat yourself Liz! 🙂

Yes they are tempting at that price, so I don’t blame you at two. Even I was thinking two because i could nor make my mind up. 😀

That’s a beautiful sunrise – it’s been a while since I’ve seen one with colours like that! It’s so true that you don’t appreciate the boring, everyday tasks until you can’t do them for yourself – I felt similarly when I had glandular fever a few years ago, and all the insignificant tasks suddenly felt monumental.

I’m glad you get where I’m coming from and that I’m not being silly in thinking that about the boring everyday tasks! It really was a beautiful sunrise, makes me think I should go looking for them more often 🙂 Thanks for the comment – hope you’re having a lovely weekend Rosie =]

There’s definitely something special about sunrises, besides them signifying a fresh start for the day ahead. I’ve really enjoyed switching off and having some downtime this weekend after the busy bank holiday weekend. Hope the pain eased up a little for you over the weekend 🙂

I’ve managed to balance some productivity with rest, but my rib is still screaming. Great to hear you’ve had some downtime and a little R&R! 🙂

” I still hate the British weather” oh my god same can it just be sunny already???

Reply

Exactly! I think summer skips Britain and thinks “nah, maybe next year” so we always live in hope, then get disappointed..!

Oh man. Hospitalized! I’m so sorry! I am a nurse and have worked in the hospital A LOT, and I HATE the hospital (like being a patient or having one of my kids in there). I’m so sorry. I’m glad you are home now.
“We’ll see what they suggest when this know-it-all-hypocrite with doctor-heal-thyself syndrome turns up!” Ha ha ha. You crack me up.
And we ALL have melt downs. Accept it. Then, look forward to some positive times when you get through a rut. I can’t imagine not having a little melt down after being in the hospital! The sunrise is beautiful! Maybe it’s a sign that there is always still so much beauty around us even on our roughest days. ❤️

That’s true, look forward to the positive times after the rut because they always come, eventually. And yes, I think the sunrise is a sign that if you slow down and look, there is beauty and hope around us. Thank you so much for your lovely comment 🙂

Congratulations on winning the blog giveaway. Praying you feel better!. I think the “know it alls” might know what is in a book but if they have experienced the pain you feel, then they don’t have a clue. I have meltdowns too, seems like all the time hahaha. God bless you, keeping you in my prayers.

Oh my goodness, I didn’t know you could pull rib muscles either. I hope you managed to rest up over the weekend and that you’re starting to feel a little better x

I’m glad it’s not just me that never knew that! Very painful, don’t recommend doing it so be careful if ever you get a bad cough or chest infection! Thank you for the kind wishes 🙂

Oh Caz, I’m so sorry I didn’t catch this post earlier! I hope you’re ok and that your ribs are healing/your chest infection has gone? I know what you mean about appreciating the boring or mundane tasks a bit more when you are well enough to do them! How fantastic that you won that mindfulness book, it looks great and enjoy your fragrances too, I’d not heard of them before. Take care and I hope September is better for you and if you need to chat, I’m always here! xx

That’s okay, don’t apologise! Thank you so much for taking the time to message, it’s much appreciated. My rib still hurts (a lot!) but I’m taking regular Ibuprofen which seems to have taken the edge off enough to lie down so perhaps there’s some inflammation too. If it’s not one thing it’s another… Those fragrances really are lovely, and they actually have some lasting power which is good. I do find that pretty scents can lift your mood. You should give them a go! I hope you’re doing better too, and can work at the whole de-stressing malarky this month, even though it’s easier said than done. I’m of course always here too if you want to chat, email or Facebook. Take care lovely, have a good (restful!) weekend.xxx

Ooh, congrats on your giveaway win! How exciting! 😀
I really hope you get to feeling better soon. And thanks for sharing that photo you took of the gorgeous sunrise. It’s a beauty. I’m almost never out and about early enough to see it like that, so it was a treat to see. 🙂

Yeah, I’ve found there are quite a few really gorgeous sunrises lately, lots of pinky skies that are so pretty. I think it’s the only perk to not sleeping well, so if you don’t see them because you’re getting some shut eye then I think that’s a better way to spend your time to be honest! Thanks taking the time to read and to stop by to comment 🙂

I can really relate to the fickle weather dilemma…I live in New Brunswick, Canada–and , yesterday, I dressed for the cold and looked ridiculous in the afternoon when it became soooooo hot! 🙂 Great post…beautiful sunset…I hope you recover soon 🙂

Changeable weather in Canada too then! Still, I’d rather dress up for the cold/rain than dress up in flip flops and shorts and find it turns bitterly cold and rainy! Thank you for stopping by and the kind comment 🙂 xx

I’m with you….I can’t stand being cold–and cold and damp is worse case scenario. And, stopping by was my pleasure 🙂
