Spring Sunshine

by InvisiblyMe

We were lucky enough to get some spring sunshine and warmth this weekend in what is usually a dreary and cold UK. It’s not scorching or summer weather where I am, but it’s certainly a huge improvement and it makes a big difference to your outlook and sense of well-being. That said, it can be hard to enjoy it when you’re dealing with a chronic/invisible illness and it can be a shock to the system when you’re not used to it!

I struggle with the cold, so even when it’s ‘warm’ I feel goosebumps on my arms and my hands are like ice. “Cold hands, warm heart”, right? It’s been lovely to not wear my usual top, two cardigans, one or two jumpers, coat, scarf and gloves. Admittedly, I still layered me tee over a long-sleeve top and added a cardigan under the jacket, but it was still less than usual. It’s not going to last as Monday is forecast to be back to the usual gloom, so I wanted to get out while I could.

Saturday didn’t start well, resulting in a hot water bottle and a few tears of frustration because I’d wanted to fMilkshakeShoes1eel better than I did. I put on a smiley face, a new tee, my bargain sale Converse and headed out. I grabbed a milkshake in the park before picking up some essentials in town and stopping for another quick break at a beer garden before getting the bus back. Today, I feel equally as crappy as yesterday. My mood is awful, I can’t stop overthinking and over-stressing, my jeans are far too tight, my back hurts, my head hurts, my tummy hurts. But I pushed it just a little to go to the local park, which is a only about 5 minutes away. I’m very lucky to have that so nearby. I was out for under two hours but still had to have a lie down when I got back and curl up into a ball.

The photos of me show someone happy and almost carefree – but that’s very different to how I felt and feel right now. I know I don’t look sick. Most with invisible illnesses don’t. Don’t let photos you see online and on social media fool you. Most people edit their lives for Internet consumption to just show the seemingly good bits. No matter how crappy and awful you feel, try to appreciate and enjoy the little things that can you, and remind yourself that things can and do change, that you won’t feel this way forever. If you feel good today, then relish it without apology. Please be kind to yourselves.

Amazon have a range of awesome Disney tees, including an Alice In Wonderland range if you want to check them out. I like to have something a little less ‘adult’ and grown-up, it reminds me to have a little fun every now and again!

Sunshine definitely makes a huge change to my outlook on things; the grey days of January had me feeling rather down in the dumps, but I’ve noticed an improvement in my mood now it’s sunny. I find that projecting an image of happiness when I’m low can really zap my energy levels, but I think it’s something that everyone is “guilty” of to an extent. Glad to see you managed to get out and enjoy the sunshine for a little while 🙂

Yes, pretending to be fine on the outside and pushing on through how you feel can be exhausting. I’m glad the sun has helped pick you up slightly. Let’s hope there’s more where that came from soon! x

Hi, there! 🙂 Lovely photos. I love your Alice shirt and cute converse!
Your post brings up several very good points about invisible illnesses and how people’s social media posts don’t always show what’s really going on in their lives. I think it’s really important to be kind to one another since, like you said, you never really know what is going on with someone.
Take care and have a great week! 😀

I want to relish when I feel good but my focus is usually in getting everything done I couldn’t when I was feeling like crap. So it’s either feel like crap or being busy. The sunshine is out here too (new york state), finally!!! The snow melted yesterday, for which every single person here is grateful, lol.

That’s very true actually, when I feel a little better it’s often the time to catch up on everything I couldn’t do before as well. Perhaps we need to push aside some of those things every now and then and make the most of when we feel a little better to do something nice for ourselves! Hah, yes I bet everyone’s happy to see the snow disappear! x

Over the other side of the world we are moving into winter and its a reminder of how greyer days mean I struggle more. I love your photos…. its always so comforting to see real images of people who are bearing their souls than ones just posted to impress 🙂

Im so sorry you felt crummy that day. Like you said, it’s amazing when we can relish the days we DO feel good! I don’t have a chronic illness, but I have bad anxiety and bad social anxiety- so I have my day “days” too where I just feel more anxious, I don’t know why, and I get frustrated. But you are right we need to be so much kinder to ourselves than we are. I love you Alice too and great point about how people edit themselves for social media!

The spring weather is clearly making fun of me. Last week, glorious sunshine while I put a new roof on my dads shed and painted it. This week with plans for a seaside trip, rain, rain and more rain. Huff. Nice photos though! 🙂

Oh no, how typical! Yes, it’s looking rather dreary in the SW where I am at the moment, I wouldn’t have high hopes for the upcoming week. Hopefully there’s enough to keep everyone happy at the seaside despite the British weather! Hope you have a fab time 🙂
